I have piping and zipping going on in the incubator. 13 went in 2 clear at a week and 2 quitters at 2 week candling. Put 9 in lockdown last night and was surprised I had some drawn down and some internally piping when I was doing final candle. I was woken at 5am to loud chirping in the incubator thought for sure someone hatched but nope someone is a loud mouth started talking as soon as externally piped.

Day 20 on my serama eggs. This hen lays very slick eggs and I accidently dropped one candling day 18. Egg didnt break bad, theres just I tiny piece of shell missing exposing the membrane. I'm hoping it doesnt dry up. Right now the broke egg is rocking and I have another piping.
( set 12, candles at day 10 and 5 of them didnt start. 7 still good at day 18)

Parents are the same as the rooster I posted above. Hoping for a good variety of color:fl but right now my main concern is them all hatching without problems

I got 6 serama chicks in the mail yesterday. 1 died yesterday, never ate or drank. I fed crumbled egg yolks yesterday and now everyone has pasty yellow poop stuck on there bottoms (one has some on her head). They have electrolytes and probiotics in water. Other than wiping their little butts, anything else I can do?

I usually keep cleaning their butts and feeding them regular chick feed. Sometimes I mix in the little brown seeds (milo?) that's in scratch to harden their waste up.

How old are the chicks? I haven’t received any chicks in the mail but I wouldn’t put additives in the water. My first set of chicks I gave them them save a chick and they all kept having loose poop. I didn’t have any for the next batch and noticed no loose poo so I never use it again. I just do plain warm ( first couple days) water and unmediated chick starter.

DS's incubation project hatches on M-W.

He's testing & comparing 4 different incubators. Brinsea, Hovabator, Incuview, and home-made cooler-bator. (Basically, we're helping the classrooms hatch eggs anyway, so we scheduled them at the same time and arranged for DS to use their incubators for his project.) In each incubator he put 6 Leghorn, 5 Orp, 3 Spitzhauben, 1 serama, and 1 turkey egg.

We already have a pip on the serama egg!
:wee

A little more egg-citing news: My December-hatched serama pullet is now laying. So here's the hard part.... By the end of the week, I will have up to 5 empty incubators where I could set eggs. With an upcoming busy social schedule, I shouldn't set any eggs until later in May. Can I resist the temptation????

The 1st chick is out! (Serama, of course)

The preschool actually had the 1st chick. (The teacher went in tonight to check on them & got to see it hatch.) Their serama egg from the Incuview hatched at 8pm, & the one in this Coolerbator hatched at 8:45pm. It's likely the other 2 incubators also have serama chicks hatching tonight. The actual hatch day is Tues, but I told the schools that the seramas would likely hatch on day 19.

Here's one of my smallest serama chicks next to a Leghorn chick. The serama's about the size of a quail. It doesn't seem as healthy/active as the rest, so I've been taking it out a few times a day for a little extra feed time. This morning, it's got pasty butt. Aside from the cleaning & TLC, is there something to add to the food to help this one out?
