American serama thread!

NO magic way to keep the dust down that I know of. I think the sand made as much dust as the Aspen bedding does.

I have some in large rabbit cages, large guinea pig cages, dog exercise pens and C& C cages that can be made usually for guinea pigs or rabbits. Who is in what cage depends on their size and how many is in the group.

I will see if I can find a couple of pictures. What you want if you use a bird cage is more length/width than height. Chickens spend a lot of time on the "ground" and need room to move around freely.

I do scoop nite poops from under the roosts every a.m. That keeps the smell down a lot
Now I am NOT crazy, the bird in the front of this picture is 1/2 rumpless bantam Araucana and 1/2 Serama but you can see some others in the background. These are cages (C& C, cubes and coroplast) easily put together .

Here is a pic of a trio in a dog exercise pen which is 4' high and makes a pen 4'x4' square.

I do NOT crossbreed the mixed girl and do NOT sell any mixed SERAMA just incase I scared anyone!

I want to thank everybody again for all of the helpful information! My little Anthony is already showing improvement! That night I put a heat lamp on him and he cuddled up close to it. The next morning I went in and he wasn't wheezing hardly at all! and I only heard a few sneezes all day! I did buy the Tylan but didn't give him any yet. I don't like to give meds unless necessary. He's been good all day and I've been watching him closely. I gave him some banana and boiled egg along with some vitamins. I'm going to stock up on supplies for emergencies now. I've been wanting to do it but kept putting it off or forgetting about it. My chickies aren't sick to often at all thank goodness

He's my first and only Serama along with a bunch of Silkies and I'm hoping to get more like him! He's just loved to death here!

you can never tell at that age.... give him a few more months generally a cockerel doesnt even show til minimum 8 months and that is only if he is mature enough to do so and hold his own.... enjoy them while they are small cuz they change and grow up so much
