Jet and ebony- ebony is so tiny she can only cover 1 egg, so i gave her one of boaz's girls egg...and she is extremely protective of that little egg

It just doesn't get better than that.

In the middle of fall we had a couple really cold nights (before I put the heatlamp in). After about 3 nights, I came out to my Roo sounding like that, and figured I better put the lamps in. Within 2 days he was back to normal.

I have a heat lamp and a box I built with another in my coop. I rarely drops below 45 or so. I also had someone tell me that seramas can get choked on a bucket water system. She has no symptoms other than the sound she is making. She is active and is continuing to lay eggs each day. So I didn't know if maybe I should take her inside or not. And again, I didn't want to expose the chicks and the broody I have in there.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will just keep doing what I have been and hope it works or she swallows better.

Is there a vet you can take her to? I've already checked with the vet school here to see if they would treat my small flock. They will. Whew!

we have several vets offices here, but none know anything about avian meds. I will call around and see what I can find. I know no one will even clip wings for my Yellow-naped Amazon.

So I wrestle her while the hubby does it. lol

You can bathe them? Lol I never would have thought of that but I guess they do it with show birdies all the time eh?


I'm sorry to hear about the sick hen! That really sucks. I haven't had chickens long enough to know anything about that stuff. I guess I better put some sort of heat out there for my pair.

Ebony got broody? How SWEET! Oh boy that's gonna be cute when she has a little chick following her around!

I have been thankful so many times that the vet school is available to me. They have saved two of my dogs from a premature death.

Wow, never thought of going to a school for help, I live in a huge city, maybe I can find one around here as well! I'm going to look for future reference! Great idea!

Raven wood. The Serama's grow so fast, I know that they grow until they are about one year but there must be a age where they have most of their growth? If they keep growing this fast they would not be little by the time they are 1 year. I asked this before but wasn't answered. Just curious.

In my experience...Serama's stop growing "UP" around 5-6 months old, but they fill out and chests pop and the gap between the back of the head and the tail closes some. Stance will get better, and combs/waddles get redder/better/bigger/etc. All the filling out and coloring up happens from 6months or so to a little over a year. And...every bird is different. Some take longer, some bloom early.

Again, that is just my experience with these guys and you could fit my experience into a thimble compared to most of the owners on here. So take that with a grain of salt.
