American serama thread!

This is a little pullet about the same age as yours. The comb on her brother was very much bigger and redder. I would post his picture but he was culled as soon as I was sure of his gender. I'm quite pleased with this little one. The mother is about 10 ounces; little one is 2 ounces and I like the looks of her more than the mom.

She's a cutie

Why did you Cull him?

was it type, Or can you not keep roosters where you live?

I have gotten birds from Jerry before. They were covered in lice and mites and the roo died a few months later of an unknown sickness (i believe mareks) i personally would never order from Jerry again because it was heartbroken to try and help that rooster only to watch him die.
Then do you think that I should cancel my order of birds right now? I'm scheduled to get a trio and eggs any day now. Is there a possibility that your birds had Mareks and became immune to it and when the seramas came in it got them infected? I also know that the stress of shipping and being in a new place can kill birds. ( I know from experience) What did you use to get the mites off?
I do not know "Jerry", but there will be problems with anyone dealing in birds whether it be lice, mites, Mareks, or something else. From the posts I've read he sounds like a pretty good guy.
Jerry is the person who brought the serama into the U.S. He also owns the largest flock of seramas in the U.S. He is supposed to be a good breeder. Anna Ballard the judge recommended me to him to get a trio of seramas from him. From my understanding he is a great man. He sends a pair or trio to youth that request them.

I would keep your order, I know several people who got birds from Jerry and not one had problems, they did get mites at a show but that is not the problem

I wouldn't worry, I would think that if your bird DID die of markeks that you would get a replacement or a refund because that is not ok to sell birds with mareks

I have personally gotten birds from Jerry. They got shipped across the country overnight. They arrived in good health. I did keep them on "lockdown" to make sure they were healthy before exposing them to my flock. Since then they have been perfectly healthy and my flock is fine. They are becoming quite nice birds. I think sometimes things happen. I agree with @prizepete though, if your birds do not arrive in good health I believe that is not acceptable and if that happens it will need to be discussed with him personally.

Thank you. If they do come in bad shape then I will contact Jerry again. Is mereks transmittable through the egg?

Thank you again

Honestly you Said that very well. When I start selling birds I will make sure that they are in good shape before I sell them, If they do have issues I WILL Make sure that the buyer knows about this issue. nikki- I am very Sorry that the birds that you got from jerry where sick. I heard that a few months ago he had a mite problem, but it seems that he has gotten a handle on it, which makes me happy for him
