American serama thread!

Ra-Your birds look great. I also enjoy looking at the pictures. Only problem is that it shows how poor mine are in comparison. Well, some day...

Ha, don't go by my birds. They're freaks who don't follow the rules but thanks.

I was actually wondering what ratio of females to male is good for Seramas!

Someone on reddit just said that they put 5 hens with Bantams.
I put between 1 and 2.
I'd put more but I keep a lot of roosters who need girlfriends.

I have my first pair of Seramas!

They are so darling! 8 months old. He weighs 8.6oz, and she weighs 9oz. They are the first of their kind that I have ever personally beheld. What a couple of brats! They have no sense of personal space, lol!

I have NO idea how to care for them, to the extent that it is different from larger chickens. I know that they cannot free-range, especially since she is white. Also, it seems to me that they ought to be inside, but I don't know if that is correct. At present, they are living in my bedroom, in a birdcage. It seems a bit undignified, but they don't mind. As I type this, they are madly trying to eat the flashing lights on my keyboard.... They really are little imps! Any serama-specific advice for me? Thank you!!!

They are terrible to photograph, because they won't sit still!

This is Merlin. He is terribly hen-pecked by his lady, but sure adores her anyway.

Dove. What else? She is very difficult to keep clean, I find.

This was the day they came. They spent some time with my silkie roo, "Fuzzy," while I got their cage ready. He is a very sweet, docile guy. They hid under his "skirts" the whole time! Poor babies!

Marauding Thieves! Caught in the act!

Patience

These chicks are 8 weeks old. Serama are mature and laying eggs between 4 and 6 months. Their care is about the same as other chickens. Most resources state that serama need supplemental heat; mine seem to do well in temperatures in the30s and 40s. I do not free range.

This is the EE I got to keep the serama company until the bantams get here. She is like a big baby (compared to the serama)
