I hope a frizzle hatches!

Feathers are just coming in and it's probably more wishful thinking but I think two of the four might be frizzle; the wing feathers, while still small and little, look odd. Maybe just maybe... The next five frizzle chicks should (please) hatch this weekend. I'm hoping that more soft gray chicks hatch. And one of the chicks is way smaller than the rest.

Hi, I am getting 10 serama chicks locally pretty soon. Is there anything different about caring for serama babies (aside from adapting their food for their size) that I should know? Are they generally more fragile or prone to specific issues I should be well read on?
When picking them up, are there any signs that can help me identify gender on a 3 day old? Is 3 days a good age to take them? Thank you!

At 3 days old they have more of a chance that they will die, Just some don't make it... Expect to lose at least one, When they are older Sudden Death can be a problem, if you are hoping for quality there isn't really a fair way to judge seramas at 3 days. Gender You wont be able to determine at that age, Personaly I like to get them when they are about 6 months old

I don't think she will lose one especially if the person she gets them from has been watching them. By three days old they are normally strong and the ones that won't make it due to failure to thrive have died. I don't think that they should expect to lose a chick at three days old unless they don't have the appropriate items to raise chicks. But I do agree with you about sudden death syndrome. Though it hasn't happened to me and I think is random. I tell gender at about 4 weeks and quality takes awhile. I normally hatch or buy adult birds. Good luck seramas are awesome!@Monstermouth

yes, But if even ones immune system is weakened by anything its possible to have lots of problems.... I just like to just plan for one to have problems and pass away... I was just trying to tell her that (at least for me) in most hatches no chicks die, there is a lesser chance as they get older. Since there immunity and strength goes up with age. I think the main thing is that they have a heat source that is warm enough for them as they age.Sorry about your last hatch. If the chick hatched normal though I think it will normally be fine. Hopefully the next goes better.

When picking them up, are there any signs that can help me identify gender on a 3 day old? None that I consider reliable. Is 3 days a good age to take them? If you have the set up for chicks that young, yes.Thank you!

There are weak lines of serama. Look at the parent stock and chicks carefully before buying. Any sign of sickness/disease/weakness buy elsewhere.

Today is a new day and the chick's wing feathers have grown enough to see that three of the four chicks are frizzle.

This morning I was attacked by my white silkie who is brooding eggs. That meant only one thing-more chicks. Two of the five frizzle eggs had hatched-one almost hatched and the other two eggs pipped.

YEAH! Silly as it sounds, its rather scary have a angry silkie come rushing off the nest to fly in my face (rather unexpected). I wasn't even by her nest.

Hello all! I have a Serama pair that have become mature in the past two months. I let them free range with the big girls, a polish, naked neck and barred rock. My roo is a very good provider and he is especially devoted to my Serama hen, they sleep together and follow eachother around. Only problem is, he mated with her when she first started to lay, now he only has eyes for the NN and Polish (especially the polish

). I'm guessing, the only way to force him to go for the Serama hen again, is to separate them? I'm hoping for some babies! Thanks everyone!
