American serama thread!

Congratulations!
Most of my hens only get off the nest once a day.
I sometimes dip the babies beaks in water and mash on day 2 if I haven't seen them eating or drinking.
I don't know if it has prevented any problems or if it's just my own nervousness but it hasn't seemed to cause any harm.Ra- you save yourself chicks; of that I am positive. I have saved a number of chicks that did not learn to drink with the others. Every new family spends a few days in a clear tub on the dining room table until I have seen every chick drink on its own.

HELP
I have serama eggs in the incubator and they started to pip first thing this morning but still have not made anything more then a air hole it has been about 12 hours now.
The chick is peeping and somewhat active from time to time.
How long should I wait before helping?
What are signs to look for that something is wrong?

I have read they can take 12 to 24 hours to finish hatching. Make sure the humidity is around 70 if you can to keep the membrane lubricated so they can move. We just hatched our sebrights and the humidity was as close to 70 as we could keep it. Temp fluctuated a little but stayed mostly at 99. I have read that if it is too hot or the humidity is too high they can get weak.

It can take 12-24 hours before they do anything. If it seems to be deterioting then you need to help.

I hope your chicks hatched OK.

This morning was 24 hours and still no more progression so I started to help and put him back to see if he could finish by him self but he died shortly after.

I feel terrible.
What if I shouldn't have helped, what if wasn't ready.... Do I help to late???? So many questions going through my head.
I feel horrible...
The egg did have more blood left inside then the others....he was a very large chick the side egg he was in. I'm just wondering if he pipped early to get hair b/c he ran out of room and air in the air cell but wasn't ready to actually hatch yet????

I'm so upset, I just feel aweful because he was probably my interference that killed him despite me doing what's thought was the best thing....

It's not easy to know what the right thing to do is sometimes. All we can do, is our best. From what you wrote it sounds like the chick was weak and wouldn't have survived. You tried. You did what you thought was right. I hope you have other chicks to make you smile.

Sorry for your loss.
I have resorted to helping chicks hatch a couple of times.
Sometimes they live, sometimes they don't.
Don't beat yourself up. You tried your best.

Don't worry about it to much. Sometimes these things happen. Did any hatch? If so, think about all the ones that successfully hatched. Seramas are hard to hatch in general. I'm sorry.
