American serama thread!

That pose is freakin' adorable! Big boy stance!

Thank you. He's only about 40 hours old in that pic.

Beverly is hatching out some babies this morning.
She's part of the Alfie trio, with Gracie.
She's on 3 of their own eggs along with 2 from Deanna.

The humidity of my dry hatch incubator run seems to hover around 30%.
When you open an incubator, your humidity drops.
When I open my incubator, my humidity rises.

I've got a good feeling about this dry technique for Tribbles.
If anyone wants to give this method a try even before the results are in,
I've collected 2 dozen assorted eggs in the last 5 days.
I'll send you a dozen for $36, free shipping. Take both dozen for $55.

Ra_-I have my doubts on this. What is the humidity where your new chicks hatched? Have you ever checked humidity under your hens? I haven't, but Ithink I will this weekend. I do wish you luck with your experiment. I have had it with incubators and believe that there is nothing better than a broody hen.

If only my incubator wasn't full! I would have totally Tryed this!

Ra_-I have my doubts on this. What is the humidity where your new chicks hatched?

Two hens hatched chicks in January, inside.
The little space heater made the room as dry as a desert.
I hung a large, thick wet towel in there and it was bone dry every 12 hours.
That heater was sucking all the moisture out of everything in that room,
including the eggs and the hens themselves.
They hatched successfully with not only low humidity but with virtually no humidity.

I've tried incubating over the years. Either no chicks or just one or two would hatch.
Something was wrong. It wasn't because the eggs were damaged in shipping.
My current dry hatch at 30% humidity is downright soggy, compared to that room in January.
I think I was drowning my chicks when I put water in an incubator with unhatched Tribbles.
We'll know more in 14 days.

Ra, if the eggs are still available, I would love to give it a try. I have two incubators and can try a dry and regular hatch.

I have 3 of the tribble eggs in lockdown and I am hoping for a hatch on Sunday.

Last November, I was incubating 4 eggs from my hens (LF). On day 11th, I left town to visit family. I manually turn my eggs so I was worried about the embryos sticking to the shell. I was going to buy an egg turner but I would not be back in time to remove the egg turmer, which might have killed the embyos.

I finally decided to just increase the humiditg like if the embyos were 17 days old. When I returned, I did not expect a hatch, but on day 20-21, all 4 hatched without problem within 24 hrs. Becausr I was not there to increase humiditty on day 17, the eggs hatched perfectly with low humidity.

However, shipped eggs are probably a different story. Most of the eggs I have bought have a larger egg cell that the eggs I incubate from my own hens. I am not sure how shipped eggs would handle a dry hatch.

I have m first chicks from my frizzle hen hatching next week!!! I also figured out why my hatch rates have been so low in the incubator. The plug that I was plugging the turner into doesn't work, so I am hoping this goes better! After this hatch I am hoping to set more!
