LOL, if one is a frizzle I will keep it, otherwise they'll have to go, probably two more (Phyllis and one other baby) is all I can handle unless we build a bigger coop ... you can have dibs if you want LOL!

I can't believe it, we just got back from the vet and Squirtle has ... heatstroke. The vet thinks she was stung by a scorpion or a bunch of ants which made her mostly paralyzed and then got heat stroke since she couldn't move around to drink and get cool. So, she's indoors for at least a week. I think I'll be putting out some ant killer, since that is what I think it was - we have had an ant explosion this year.

That is a good prognosis! It could have been way worse. I was telling your husband that an old boyfriend had an african spurred tortise. It got to be HUGE. but when it was smaller it would crawl in through the doggy door when it got to hot. I would crawl under his entertainment center. (It was more like a metal shelf). Then it got to be to big to fit throught the doggy door and It would try to break the sliding glass window to get in. It was at least 30 lbs by then. So he would just leave the door open so he could come and go as he pleased!

Was so disappointed when I first ran across the Calif. Serama thread as I live in KY, not Calif. but with a little more searching I found all you good guys again! Keep posting and I'll keep reading and learning. Love reading this thread as I did the old one.https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/62617_cimg3626.jpg

These are my first Seramas (from Jerry) and I am getting eggs from my black frizzle, Elvira. I am saving them up for the incubator since she is not acting broody at all. They are so sweet and the roo, Monty, struts his stuff all day. He is all over these girls so I am excited to see what I will hopefully get. I've been reading the color book but still don't know where I'm at. Hope I can get as good as all of you are!!

So will that chick carry the frizzle gene even if it has smooth feathers.

My neighbors got seramas from Jerry to show in the fair this year. They are so excited, escpecially the 3 year old. My husabnd actually had to put up really high locks on the doors to the pens because he was a little too excited about ours and it was making me nervous. Anyway they are canceling the poultry show because they are worried about spreading diseases. The kids are really disapointed and some am I. That is the only reason I go to the fair...and the 4H curly fries are also another reason.

All of Marilyn's chicks will be either frizzle or carry the frizzle gene ... if I understand it correctly - someone let me know if I'm wrong!!! Both of her parents were frizzles ... so does that make her really a sizzle? And if both of her parents were frizzle, does that mean all of her chicks will be frizzle too? I'm thinking this is correct since she got a copy of the gene from each parent. Gesh! I need to buy a genetics book!
