No, oats costs more than scratch, but oats are more nutritious than either wheat or corn. That's why horses are fed oats instead of wheat or corn. Corn is more carbohydrates and generates more heat. Cows and pigs are fed corn to fatten. No corn during hot weather.

I would change their substrate to newspaper or paper towels for a few days and see if that makes a difference. Try to start ruling some things out while keeping a close eye on their health at the same time.

I like corn cob bedding. It does not cause dust and is easy to clean up.

Just from experience pine shavings should not cause them to sneeze even if it is dusty?

Hope they are not sick... Medicated chick feed just helps with coccidious, it does not help with anything else.

If they have been exposed to any respiratory illnesses you would need tylan 50 or l.a. 200. For chicks I would not inject, I would give orally. Or buy medicated powder to mix in their water.

This was one of the reasons I stopped using pine shavings...just too dusty (all my batches seem bad) though I've never had sneezing problems from it. I would love to use corn cob but I'm thinking it might be too expensive?

Thanks Junebug! But you didn't say where a person can get this wheat germ or oil....

I've never heard of corncob bedding. I buy big bags of wood chips at my feedstore. It doesn't seem to be dusty and is very inexpensive. (It's horse bedding.)

Works good. Costs me about $6 for a BIG bag.
