American serama thread!

frow.gif
Hi! New to this thread and don't have any seramas 'yet' but will be looking for a silkied pullet or hen in the near future. First I am slowly making my way thru this entire thread to learn more about the breed and I just really enjoy all the pictures! I am on page 43.

I have a little mixed bantam flock-no roos- and would love to add a serama hen. Dot, our little OEGB hen comes in the house sometimes so I do have diapers.

When I get a serama pullet I figure I will have to bring her inside for the winter and get her used to diapers.

.....on to page 44

well, i'm incubating some of his eggs right now, but since it's the first time incubating them, i don't know if his hen is really fertile... so cross your fingers...

pfft...

jose's dad loves this bird... he always has him out on the weekend to show him off to his friends... puts a tshirt on a table or ice chest, and shows everyone how he poses... i'm surprised he let me play with him this weekend... anyways, if you want to get him, you're gonna have to get thru a 110lb pit bull and frankie... but i'd be more scared of frankie than the pit...

Have been reading and re-reading the Serama color book and I know very little more than I knew before, which was nothing! I decided to try hatching from the trio I got from Jerry and just see what I get. Good luck to you trying to understand the genetics.........hope you do better than I did. So far, out of 16 chicks, using the 2 different hens, no one looks like their parents although they are very young now.
Jerry wouldn't send me photos either but I trusted him to fulfill what I wanted and I was not disappointed. I would trust his judgement as to what you should start with. A dollar well spent for a good foundation bird.

Here are some of my babies, still babies but finally getting old enough to start looking decent again. Not great pics for type but none of them were excited to be taken from the baby's pen and be left alone in a strange cage.

Light blue, yellow legs, mottled

Darker blue, laced, no sign of mottling or red leakage, swarthy legs

Chocolate chick

Love this shade of chocolate. Swarthy legs, white chest, a little mottling on the neck.

Chocolate chick, an older pullet, not my fav color but will breed her to a black rooster and try to improve it.
