Hey Froggie, how are you doing?  It was cute...Bumble was cuddling with the husband tonight as he was trying to take a nap.  She is such a good bird. She is a good respresentation of how fun seramas can be and what good pets they can be. She is definitely our #1 bird.

Welllll, if she ever needs a new home................umm..........I know of this great place.........in a warm part of the country............

I was suppose to go to cc but hubby scheduled stuff that he wasnt suppose to so long story short we are not going. I am sooo bumbed. he says he is going to build me several breeding pens this weekend to make up for it. I am letting him really sweat it out. I am beyond disappointed.

thats actually a frizzled hen, i know her frizzling is rather weak, i am thinking about doing a frizzle/ frizzle mating, first im going to try frizzle/ smooth (from frizzled parent)

Hi, I am kind of new to this... but i have a silkie serama hen who hatched out 6 chicks. How do you tell if the chicks are going to be silkie like her? Also she is a black hen, and the rooster was a smooth black breasted red. Why are 5 chicks yellow and 1 chick is brown???

the only way you will get some silkied chicks is if the cock is split for silkied, if he is, you should get 50% silkied, if not, then none will be silkied but they will all carry silkied genes, and they are that color because the roo is probably wheaten (chick down for wheaten is yellow, brown down is BBR)
crossing black and wheaten is actually how you get black tailed buff, so if you breed those yellow chicks to eachother for 3 generations (in theory) you should get some black tailed buff

Last September some Seramas came up for bid at a sale in Cleveland, GA. Their tail feathers had been cut presumably for hair decorations. Even with missing tail feathers thy were still nice birds. I purchased a pair for $4. New feathers have long since come in. I named them George and Gracie. We had a relatively mild winter and they have done well. When it is cold George roosts on top of Gracie keeping her warm. I set four of their eggs and had one hatch after a thermostat failure. I'll get some pictures up soon. I've really enjoyed reading this thread.

Are there any good breeders in washington state? I'm getting a pair from June, but I'd like more. I would be nice to be able to pick up rather than ship.

For you hatching pros I have a couple of questions: I had two eggs that had pipped with large size holes. yesterday was day 20 so I went to bed and when i woke up they had died. I wasnt worried because they still had a day and were getting plenty of air...any thoughts.

also have you ever had chicks hatch that have a glue substance in there that keeps them stuck in. It reminds me of rubber cement. They chicks are all hard and crunchy when I pull them out and gluey in the shell. I have had this happen a couple of times and they have to get helped out of their shells.

I am definitely not a hatching pro but for what it is worth..........what do you have your humidity level at when they are due to hatch?
