American serama thread!

Last month's hatch on their first day outside. Blacks are not Seramas, and of the others, only one or two
pullets. March was the same way.

here is Ruths eye, she is now opening it occassionally and sees motion, then turns to get a better view with her good eye.
..
Looks like regular old weepy eye.

Just wipe the eye off 2-3 times daily and treat with teramyacin or other eye ointment.

My lovely A class roo, Charles! Weighing in at 9oz.

He's awesome I love the gold breast and sequined shoulders! Is he fertile ? I am going to try to produce a line that is true for black breasted red or wheaten birds but one of the things I love about Serama is the randomness of the color possibilities. I hope that never gets lost in the quest for pure strains. I think I will maintain a small group of random colored hens as well. Maybe add all the bad wheaten and non wheaten to it to keep the color alive. Perhaps there is a place for backyard breeders after all. LOL

I have another question regarding the wheaten colored chicks . I have to try to get pics o them soon . One is showing buff colored breast feathers, wing and tail heavily marked in black the other two are not showing breast feathers yet. one has very brown wings with lesser markings in black and one is very pale buff on the wings with slightly darker brown markings on the wing. Someone here said the cockerels will have dark markings on the wings and the pullets will have lighter makings when young, does this sound like I have two boys and a girl then? I'll try to get the pics up tomorrow.

Thank you! i love this color, too!

I'm not sure on fertility as of yet, since my hens for him aren't yet laying. 9oz. is generally not small enough to cause problems with fertility.

I like the randomness in color. None of my birds are the same color as the others and i'm excited to see the color that the chicks end up being.
