American serama thread!

The original breeder was aiming for mille's in his program. He had several generations he had produced. So, I am hoping what I picked out will follow through and give me more. IF/when they start to produce and I get a test hatch going, I will let you know.

The youngest hen has what looks like partridge feathers down her back mingled with the mille colors. So she may be a total toss up as to what she gives. In the spring, I hope to get a nice pullet or pair from Jerry. I am going all out to gather some nice birds to get the line I want. The eggs I have are off Grady Taylor show birds, so I may luck up and if they do well, get something nice in there.

Most Seramas are shown on table top because of this. And they do have youth categories.

Say, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what color / pattern these feathers would be. My egghead chick has feathers like this:

Thanks :D

Oh I hope so, lunar!!
is that a partridge color?? My silkies have that color on them and they are partridge. They are about 6 weeks old

And...is there an AOV or anything for Serama's?

Partridge!  It's so cool to have a name for it!  Is that a color or a color/pattern combo?  I'm curious about the pattern as well?  Thanks so much!

Lunar, what's an AOV, I'm horrible at abbreviations/acronyms, LOL

An AOV is all other varieties. And the pattern of the chick when all feathered out should be something similar to my avatar.;)

AOV any other variety. sorry, I was just wondering. I saw several at the show down here last Saturday. Most were in Juniors, but some were not. Of course, there were the whites too.

As far as the partridge...most birds have that color. I LOVE partridge Silkies & Cochins. Here is a pix from My Pet Chicken. you can click to make bigger and really see the art of the color. And I really like the roo's in cochins as well. IF I had not had eggs in the bator and more coming....I almost bought a pair of these at the show last weekend. But....I was strong and resisted.

edit....ok maybe you can't make the pix bigger, but maybe you can still see the nice patterns on these girls

a few pics i got yesterday- i had brought boaz(serama) and his Lady Ginger in for the nite, and was putting drops of ivomec on them and her Ladyship decided to fly to the top of the starling cage, and Boaz had to be put there, since he can't attain flight...

and while i was doing the boaz shot, Ginger decided to retreat to the diningroom table.... that girl is fast! She is an OEGB

haven't had much time online today- quick question- i ran out of chick crumble- would it be ok to feed the babies regular crumble till i get to the store??

I think it takes at least 5 different breeders, 5 years of breeding, and 50 birds of that color (I heard somewhere it was only 25 but I'm not sure which is true) at a qualifying meet with whatever color has been put in for recognition before a color is approved. 2014 is when they are hoping to get the Black Serama recognized.

Wheaton is still a work in progress, I think fall of 2016 is when they are going to try to get that done.

As far as I know those are the only 2 colors that SCNA is actively working on getting recognized. I'm sure if you got enough people rallied around and wanting to work on a certain color then they may also put in a petition for that color as well.

If it were cheap enough, I have 2 birds that I would get tested for color. One pullet that is like a white tailed buff... but she has very dark lacing on her neck... but the top of her head, her chest and her wings are white... she is just weird. I think the prettiest colored girl I have... but weird colored lol. Then I have 3 Cockerels, all basically the same color but one may be a tad darker or lighter then the others, so I could just test 1. Anyway they are like chocolate laced, then mottled on top of that. I'm just curious what they would be called. And seeing as genetics are very interesting to me, it would be nice to know what genes my birds have.
