Americana egg color---question...

Yes I too was misinformed by a local breeder. Last year I bought 2 {Americana's} In OCT I got my first egg it was a beauty xlg sage green. The second chicken started laying lite brown. I was in shock at first. Then I got to looking around. I received Easter Eggers. The one who lays green eggs has a clean face and a beard. The brown layer has waddles and a beard. So this year we have bought a much bigger place out in the county. Currently we are in the process of building a 14'x16' coop. With an 8'x4'x6' enclosed roost inside. With that in mind, I bought 11 strait run Americana's chicks from a different local breeder. Also, I picked up a Splash Maran cockerel and 5 strait run Black Copper Marans. I'm keeping one Americana cockerel. I'm going to work on getting Copper Blue Marans with chocolate eggs. Mix them with my EE to get Blue EE's and olive eggs. Later on before next spring we will build a twin coop to keep them apart. I'm just looking forward to blue eggs. Maybe this other breeder knows what she has ;-) I have a long term project. I hope to be helping the breeds run true again. If not I will end up with beautiful eggs and meat birds.
My girls Ester and Georgette are in a chicken tractor we built last year. And Lamar LaRue is in a temp cage the girls didn't like him. I had to move all the chicks to the pool!

My 1st question to any breeder is where they got their stock from if any say hatcheries then you do not have true Ameraucana's there is no "I" in Ameraucana's Find the list of breeders at this site and then go from there. If you get Ameraucana's from a hatchery or farm store they are Easter Eggers only and will not breed true you can get blue, blue/green, green, pink or brown eggs and the eggs will not go from brown to blue. they will stay the color they are. Check out this web-site it has a lot of great information. Good luck.

:lol:Yes that is a dino and a fence. There is also a farmer and tractor in the pool. My 3 and 4 year olds said they needed toys. As for the Ameracan chicks. I got them from a local breeder not a store or catalog. The breeder said they are true blue egg laying Ameraucana. Only time will tell. Last year's became EE's green and brown eggers. Regaurdless I will get beautiful eggs. I will just be picky about making offspring with the traits I want. All 6 Maran's are french standards. I'm not doing it for show birds. Just a small scale hobby of less than 20 birds. So I can teach my kids where food comes from and the cycle of life. BTW my family members beg for my eggs! So, I am upgrading.
