On average I get 8 whelps in a brood. I've had as many as 10 but that's rare. Too many anyways.
How many pups is determined by the mom. Her health, her diet, even breed. A Sibe's average is apparently 6 though which is an excellent sized brood. Enough milk to go around and a bit more for pups with a bigger appetite.
I'm open as to timing but it will need to be planned well in advance. I am gone sometimes for a week end or sometimes 3 days during the week during the summer.
Of course I would NEED pix for my "portfolio" of my dogs' bloodlines.
So lets see what happens.

I think Nala would have 5-6 pups.
The pups would be Beautyful!!
Nala's a 45lb girly, she's very polite! She crosses her paws, she speaks when spoken too(

If we bred them, could we send Nala down there so you could run her? Lol, I realy wanna see her work with a team. She's harness trained, she keeps line tight for the most part. I'm gunna gather as much info as possible so I have a strong case for my parents. This would probly be her last litter cuz she's an amazing pet.
So we'd bring Nala to you, we breed them. Then we go home and hope she took?

I love how the very day Rez post pics all of us are like. "I wanna breed dogs!!!" XD

XD yeah. I've wanted to breed my lab and since we've heard a lot about his dogs and now saw pictures, I'm liking his dogs more and more. Though, I think it would be easier for me to find a stud closer, that way Rez won't have to cross the border with pups and my female wouldn't have to go so far away.

My brothers always talking about a white blue eye husky, I think he wants a boy.
I'll talk to him when he gets home, I think that's gunna be a month? He's house sitting

K. I'll be watching Pipoon's pups. The only time I'll post pix is when they are older, like maybe 4 wks or more.
Actually that depends on if I can take pix and then transfer them to here and then post them. lol.

A lab's must be more. Mine has had 13 in one litter with only one stillborn. But oh can she produce milk! Even before she welps she's got a lot and then when there are puppies, there is waaaay more than needed, lol. You could almost milk her like a cow  It would be interesting to see how well a lab and one of your dogs cross. And if it works, then I'll have myself a couple sled dogs. :D
Yeah. Once I get to start working with my mentor, I am gonna maybe use her. Just for short runs at first. Maybe Ill be able to get an Alaskan female and breed to one of your dogs. :idunno

Ya. I noticed that about Labs. Lotsa babies. And ya, milk too. I'm under the impression that the farther away from being an ancient(closer to being a wolf)dog the more pups they have. I think it's like a survival thing. Somewhere deep down inside their DNA knows they aren't as strong as their forebearer wolf relatives so they have lotsa babies to increase chance of survival. And ya, the milk thing too.more pups, more milk. Survival.
A chocolateLab and one of mine..... 1 thing for sure, freakin awesome colors. Probably 50/50 chance of erect ears. And85-90% chance of perfect coat. I don't know about the feet though. The labs webbed feet are not really that great in the snow although their pads are good.
Yup, be interesting alright.
As for Alaskan female,..... Please make sure that if you are going to get one for mushing spend some time actually mushing with her and observe her.
If she's true, strong, friendly and displays a strong will to pull......wow.
Then fo-sho I'd love to stud out one of my dogs to help a musher get going.
Mind you I might want first pick M&F. That'll mean I'd hafta either go there to get them or you'd have to come bring them here.

Whether or not we are aware of it, at a deep down level we know things. Something in the eye, the stance, the coat...it all tells a story.
Even though most of us are not conscious of it just yet, right off the hop we recognized these dogs are "good-ole-boys" of the sled dog.
Of course we want them bloodlines in our dogs.
That's how I chose the roots of my lines and the reason there are so many breeds in them.
I saw outstanding traits and here we are 20+ years later
Please don't get me wrong, i am fully aware there are pure breeds and other Xbreeds that are good animals.
But it's kinda like comparing Appaloosas to Clydesdalses. Both have their merits. Personall opinion and practicality play a role in my choice on the App.

That's what I think anyway.
K. Snack is settled. Gota go.

Huh. I didn't think about that. Survival of the fittest, I guess. Yeah, the coat could be just about any color. She's had blacks, chocolates, yellows, and even a silver/grey pup before. Then again, I don't think any of the males were labs so that could've influenced some things. If I do get an Alaskan, I would spend at LEAST a year making sure she has exactly what I want in my next generation. Hey, maybe if you do put on that race, I will bring a female up (hopefully time it right when she's in heat ) and she could just spend the whole time up there until the race is over. That way, there's like a 95% chance she'd be bred. :idunno Of course, you would pick your two and then we'd figure out a way to get them to you.
