I did a solo run with Hank today on a flat bottem sled thingy, for 1/2 at just over a walk and he did.? AMAYZING!
Still playful but he's more serious( well at least he was today)
Just need to work on his turns and put more miles on him! He lead all by him self. Proud Moment lol

Nice!

We got almost a foot of snow  . I cant see the training trail now. Actually I can see where it was but apparently the dogs don't. Some of the drifts are 2-3 feet deep so I boro'd my dad's snomo to pack some trails. My sons are going to be home with the rest of us so everyone wants to go mushing. I am happy to be healthy enough and proud to be able to go mushing with my g-kids during the X-mas holidays.
Happy Holidays everyone. I pray you are blessed in all aspects of your personal humanity.    :love y'all

Merry Christmas to you and your family! Have fun mushing. :)

So. Much. Snow. Three feet now.

Hey, share some now! Lol jk. We've got almost 6 inches with the occasional little snow flurries. Hopefully more is on its way.

Anyways, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Seasons Greatings, what ever you prefer. :)

Should I keep training her?

I've heard a few different answers on this. Some say they train right up until a few days before they are due. Plus since she's doing light work (not 30-40 mile runs) it will probably be fine. I think one of my females is pregnant (but she's 12 years old). I think she might have had a silent heat cycle and since one of my males got loose a few times, I'm thinking she was bred. Anyways, I'd say Nala is fine to work still just give her time off when she is close

Phew. You got more than me. That's a bunch aint it. Awesome for skiers I guess but for mushers????......
We are getting a soft dusting of smallish flakes rightnow. There is no wind so it's gently floating to the Earth. I think it's actually frost from the fog lastnight.

I'd appreciate it if I had groomed trails.
In 1994-95 winter we had crazy snow. 4&1/2-5 feet. The swamps(boreal) hadn't froze so the snow all sugared. I couldn't use a snomo for trailbreaking. I used snowshoes. 1 of my (many) routes was 34 miles I way, plus 2x around the loop around the loop..(LOL). I mushed it once then a "fundraising snomo Poker Derby" went on it. In one sense it was good because it was really packed. In another sense it was not good because there was a lot of "off trail" tracks that confused the dogs sometimes.(young team). I had to do the same thing in 96-97 again. Actually in the fall I went out with an axe to make trails.
Anyways...my point, I had many routes and they all needed to be packed. I did all of them. Well over 175 miles. On snowshoes. I turned 35 in Jan/95.
I encourage you to strap on some snowshoes Blue. It'll not harm you.
But, YA. When someone (especially someone else(LOL)) grooms the trails with a machine it is nice. I am so thankful for my dad letting me use his snomo. If I was down your way I would for sure pack your trails.
Also, I have the luxury of owning a chainsaw now which makes things easier.

Aw. that's just cute.

6 inches is good enough. That's all you need. If it's packed hard it'll work good. Do you have QCR? Get some old plastics for training in little/shallow/not enough snow.
I'm sure it'll happen for you to get some more. I think we all are in for a surprise. A nice surprise.......hopefully.

She's due late Jan early Feb
She's getting the cutest bump lol
I'm thinking this litter gunna be biggethen the last
Raising them outside this time!

Should I keep training her?
Around Christmas/98 I took Mispoon on a 30 miler. My wife scolded me saying, "She's got 6 pups in her and going to whelp soon." She was right on both accounts. That was a Saturday. She(Mispoon)whelped 2 females and 4 males on Wednesday. I didn't even know she was pregnant. Gee them Qimmiq are awesome dogs.
I have seen how human females that are lazy while pregnant have a hard time with delivery. It's also been my observation the same to be true of many mammalian creatures from buffalo to cows to moose to dogs and cats.
Mispoons pups were fine. They were all healthy. They didn't even get the "normal puppy diseases". They all grew up to be awesome strong, smart, hardworking sled dogs.

Also I encourage you do not use *flax, *coats, *blankets(*cloth) or *hay. *Cloth and *hay actually sucks up moisture then freezes. It also gets mouldy. *Flax doesn't have any insulative qualities and gets stringy. That could get tangled around various body parts harming the pups and mom.
Wheat straw, oat straw and barley straw has segmented stalks. It retains heat and reflects it back to the pups. Just makes sure it has not been exposed to rain(or any other moisture during baling and /or storage.
The frosty/frozen bedding the does inevitably occur is easier to clear away when you use straw. So I encourage you to use straw as opposed to all the**.

Gee. I can sell 1 bale of good clean dry straw for $8.00 to my mushing buddies here. But I buy it for $3.50 and sell it to them $5.00 to help cover my costs of transport.
They are my buddies after all.
And their dogs are Racers. Very unlike my dogs sleeping on their roofs tops in -50*C.

anyways....ya...like Blue said"....give her time off when she is close."
