In my opinion, Alaskan Huskies are glorified mutts with a purpose. Haha! At least mine are. I mean, my definition of mutt is different, though. To me, mutt just means the dog has more than 2 breeds in it. 1 breed: purebred. 2 breeds: crossbred. 3+ breeds: mutt. Now, mutts aren't bad or worth any less; some of the best dogs we've ever owned were mutts. Lol.
Very pretty mushing territory.

Though I think I'd miss my mountains if I was there.

I know of an old old man from China that was talking to an old friend of mine.My friend was romantically interested in the old man's grandotr whom the old man had raised. My friend had been asked by this old man "What clan and tribe do you belong to?" My friend was kind of embarrassed to telling the od man of his varied background from Scottsih to Anishinahbay to Ukrainian & a few more. The old man smiled & said "umhmmm...Many bloods. Wise."
To coin the phrase, I would suppose I am a whopper of a mutt also.
On my Pampa's farm we had a menagerie of breeds that inter-bred with each other. They were all very good dogs to have around the farm. I am a firm believer in genetic diversity.
I agree that many K9 mutts are very good. I just disagree with K9 mutts(actually any breed) running loose in the vicinity of a kennel of carefully chosen Northern Spitz sled dog breeds.
I would

to mush the mtns.......foothills anyhow. I don't know about above the treeline and/or very rugged terrain. But ya....I could see how you would miss them.

Update......I hooked up Frosty and Shadow in wheel, Keyno in team and Sparticus in lead. My dotr and her partner jumped on the sled and boy-o-boy did they fly. I was actually kinda frettin because the trail is so rough. But everyone got home safe 10 mins later. Not bad for just over 2 miles I figure. y dotr and her partner sure loved it .
We have very little snow left. It got really warm here today.
I fed my dogs fresh road kill deer today. They liked that. I noticed they sure get powerful when I feed them fresh meat.
I need to install 2 more doors on my 6 hole transport unit and then stain it and secure it to the trailer. I've finished my portable trailer lights. I just need snow now.

Moms gunna see about getting Nala spayed.
I love Nalas puppies and want more with the right stud but spaying her now would prevent more Hanks lol he's great and all but this world doesn't need more. The cross has turned out to be a handful. Pretty dogs but hiuge dogs with a stubborn streak haha
Bummed of no more pups though :/

Hooking Hank and Nala up tomorrow after school!!! So excited! No snow but gunna take them with one of the weird sled things we have lol

Yeah, stray dogs don't last long around here, Because of the livestock (which are more valuable to the farmer than some stray dog). Really any dog who's chasing cows/calves (even if they have owners) get shot. But that's how it is around here. $5-$10 for a few bullets is nothing compared to a $1500-$2000 cow.

It was warm here the last few days, too. In the 40F range. Equipment upgrades, fun! Haha my parents think I've gone crazy. XD oh well!

Awe, that sucks. Sometimes it's easier to spay, but sometimes it's better not to. Certain breeds (chocolate labs, for example) get very over weight and then hip problems after spaying them. Which is why we haven't spayed ours.

Aw. that's too bad. It's a waste of beauty.
That said I've known a few beautiful women that should've been spayed.

So I guess physical beauty should not be confused with healthy functions and behaviours.
Now again...that said.... K9's are a lot easier to train than us egocentric humans.

I am pleased to hear you are excited about hooking-up. To my thinking that is a good sign of good things to come....for you.

Totally agree. 85 chickens,7 blue ribbon winning Red Bourbons(turkey), 5 geese, 61 rabbits and 15 ducks is what I lost in 1 day between 8:30 AM & 12:30(lunchtime). Needless to say I shot every 1 of the mixed breed dogs coming out of my yard as I was pulling into and witnessed the carnage. I also mention here the unplanned(and unwanted)pregnancies from such strays.
Ya, I hear you. I' constructing a 6 hole dogbox in my garage. This unseasonal warm weather is giving me lotsa time for it. I should be done for Christmas.

(singing)Merry Christmas to me, Merry Christmas to me....

. LOL

X2 I knew they get fat ... but I did not know that tho.

Yeah, livestock is more worth it than a bunch of strays. We've had lotsa Labs over the years and every one that was spayed then gained a lot of weight. Labs are already prone to bad hips and the extra pounds don't help either.

X20LOL
It's most likely due to the fact that they are practically all brothers and sisters to begin with("Line Breeding" and/or Foundation dogs and bitches).

Ya eh. I could see that. Although I am far from fat, even in my case I need to shed a few pounds for the sake of my joints and feet. Mind you in my case I believe "experienced in living"(starting to get old) may have a small effect. LOL

We had a dusting of snow but only enough to make it kinda dirty when the sun came out and melted it. I am a bit disheartened by the lack of snow. I wana mush. I mean like for miles into the wilderness on t sleigh....not a cart or quad pulled by dogs on a trail that has been run a hundred ties.

So now, to all the mushers on BYC, how's the weather in your necks of the woods? Mushable? Or stuck to muddy training trails? Travel to higher ground where there is snow? I don't have that particular option. I just got word from an acquaintance in Northern Saskatchewan they have only 2inches of snow.

So LMK wuzup where Y'all are.
