Great ideas and stuff i hadnt thought of :)
Haha your suggestions are great too! I just used to be on this dog blog, and I used to be really into training so I've picked up a lot of info from others and still remember it. Wouldn't say I'm an expert by any means lol

Ya I noticed your post is full of great info
I think the"expert" thing is up for contention. There are a lot of people out there that have a piece of paper in their wallet or framed on the wall in their office giving them the right to call the self an "expert" and disregard others' input when in reality it's just another form of "Grand Illusion".
Your post is more helpful than info I was"told" to do by roughly 85% of "experts" with "papers".:lau

Thank you for the advice :) My friend bought Arrow's sister and said that all the pups from Arrow's litter are extremely shy (which is weird because the gal I got her from always has the friendliest dogs. )

I truly appreciate your open mindedness and willingness to learn.
I think if anyone can do something wirh her, it'll be you

Me, even though I'm stubborn as the dickens I would probably give up on her and let a "rescue" take her.
I know that because...... Sparticus is usually very very shy and retired(not so much with kids though). BUT... he gets really excited when he hears and/or sees the harnesses brought out of the shed. His pother is alert and he's trotting and prancing about. Now indeed when he sees me slaking up to any of the others and harnessing them. Now he's high footing a lope with a facial expression that is just joyful to see. He'll stand on his hind legs and paw the air like animated praying. Sometimes he even bays(kinda like a bark). When he gets in the harness though he's all business. He lines out and quivers waiting for the "go" signal. While pulling to, all business. Not friendly but not cowering like when he's tethered or kenneled.
So now you know that's why I keep Sparticus........for now. I'm seriously considering re-homing come spring. But for sure if I was into racing dogs I would definitely put him into Oreo.
ANYWAY....:rolleyes::duc

Awww well thank you! I appreciate that :)

And yeah, unfortunately people think papers mean everything. Not to mention there's tons of not reputable training schools out there or ones where you dont learn anything. Real world experience is better and often, even if you don't have that, you can find free articles and videos or people willing to help that are far better and cheaper or free than these so called "schools" lol

Plus unfortunately there's still tons of alpha beat or dominant the dog unto submission type thinking :/

I'm not really sure where I stand. I try to train as positively as possible but I do think some corrections are necessary sometimes and rules/being in charge has its place, whether you call it "alpha" or just having rules. But I believe in gentle corrections like sometimes a vocal one is all that's needed or a quick tug on a collar. No need for yelling or being cruel. And even most alpha trainers now actually are against old style beat downs, those people are just ******** lol, but still. I don't know.

Anyways, there's so many people who just get a piece of paper or have trained a few dogs and think they're magically now experts

Wow!!! I am not feeling well. Monday night I kept waking up with an annoying ticklly cough. If felt lethargic all day. But after K let my lunch settle I just couldn't stay in tha house any longer. After I fed and watered all my birds and rabbits. I watered the dogs and then swept the frost crystals off the trailers and dog transport units. I harnessed up 5 dogs and went mushing. I went only 2 miles but dang I sweated. After I unhooked I watered and fed them then came in to eat a late supper. I WAS gona go to the garage and put together another 8 hole transport. Well actualy "twin" 4 hole units that can be stacked or end to end. But :D I just ended up laying on the couch covered with my favorite "blankey" whilst "Facebook"ing, "Sled Dog Central"ing and Kijiji"ing" between naps.
Then the whole family got home(finally) and they were all full of energy. 1:00AM finally quiet.
Now, questions,,, is it "Feed a fever and starve a cold" or "Feed a cold and starve a fever" ? &...why?
It's still nice to mush even though I don't feel so good. Open land mushing right on top the snow. Oh my they looked good. Of. Purse I left my iPhone home.....on the charger.

We actually got snow here. Nice crystal"ish" powder"ish"
Almost sleet. Really nice for sledding on top the crust.
Spoze 2 get real warm though. Like +7*C tomorrow and 3,4,5 the next few days then back down to -15*C the. Back up to +6*C for the day I'm spoze to take the teams and sleds to a family day at the local local sliding hill. Then cool off and get more snow then warm up to +4-8*C again for the weekend I'm spoze 2 take the dogs to our winter carnival. I hate working them when it's warm. They get lazy and burnt out quick.
Oh well, no use complaining. I don't hafta go.

We got warm weather and its melted the snow some more. Then we got a powdery fall about an inch and it warmed again and iced the top. Thank goodness because the wind came up pretty strong but because it froze on top it didn't drift.
Crazy weather,
Cutting feet(dogs) and shaving the QCR plastics and skinning knuckles(mine) and wet.
Real crappy mushing weather.
Dogs get warm real quick
If this keeps up I may need to get Eurohounds
Nah!
