Question- how do you get your dogs to run? My dog has no problem pulling me, it's just motivation that's hard. He will walk/trot then once we get home he'll tear through the house full-speed. I'm not sure where all that energy hides

ETA- If he sees another dog or person, it's no issue at all. He runs full speed and I have to jump off and grab the leash at the same time to make sure he doesn't get too close to the person as there's nothing more terrifying as a dog running full speed at you.

I run into the same problem when I try to get my dogs to pull. You see, Huskies were bred to pull so they have the desire to. Different breeds were bred for different things (Labs - hunting, collies - herding, ect.). Getting them to run without you right next to them is probably the hardest part. Working with the dog every day for 1 or more hours will definitely help. Eventually, they will get the hang of it.

Goog evening people.
Bin a while. Busy. Mushing. Geez it was cold on Sunday. Jus about froze my hands.
When I finally put my gauntlets on I sure was glad I bought them good woollen liners.
It was so cold I had to run once in awhile. My feet where getting pretty cold... ..even in my mukluks.
That's a first for me. Maybe just just because I'm getting older and my blood don't flow so well anymore?
Gona go back to where I left off and do some catch-up reading.

TTYL.

HA! Sorry. I went to a hockey game with my wife and baby girl. Home team won 5-4. I'm guessing all of you are sleeping as I'm doing this but I'm just gona yammer on.
I just read all the posts. There's some nice dogs. I like Shadow and Kili and the blue eyed agouti a and the blue eyed white.
I had a white one like that a few years ago.his name was Pepsi. Smart and strong he was.
Red Sibes lack the gene that'll duces black pigment. I found them to be more tender footed and a tad more aggressive, albeit pretty.
It sounds to me that all of you are getting pretty excited about aquiring some additions and/or racing and/or mushing in general.
I gota tell you all it's addicting. But a much healthier addiction than drugs, alcohol, over eating, gambling and/or the opposite sex.
Once I got back into mushing full swing its been too hot to put down.
Some people around here say that I'm weird or doing it for recreation or fun. I can't disagree with them. I've always been weird.....in the sense that I have always thought out of the box. Recreation?.... ..ya,....sorta. Fun?.... ...again....ya, sorta. All of it but as I've stated before, it's a way of life for me. Cheaper than a snowmobile, smells better, no pollution, viable source of income via eco-tourism, always ready to work or hunt when I am, they don't swear atmeorcallmedown, and they are always happy to see me, food in hand or not. Again as I've stated before, therapeutic too. It's the game) it was -30*lnight, which is also -40*F.
In Cree it's "mitoniitahkayow", very much so bitterly cold in English.
While I was at the hockey game I was speaking with a musher buddy and we are considering hosting a race in my community in January or early Februar
We hope to get everything done with 10G. You're all invited too so get ready.
Whether or not it becomes a reality though remains to be seen. Prayer sure will help.
Gee. Gota sleep now. Nodding off sometimes now. It is after all 1:30AM
G'nyt.

Hi!!
So I talked to my folks again last night and they said I can do a race! If all goes well, I will use Meringue in lead and borrow my friend's puppy team. Meringue still refuses to "line out" or "gee"

Any ideas?? I can't run her solo in lead like i could when I first got her.

I didn't know that about the red Sibes. Cool. Yes, much better than drugs/alcohol/ect. A race would be cool. I'd want to put one on but I wouldn't even know where to begin. Lol coming would be fun except you're like 1,300 miles away from me.... :/

Yay! And not so yay. I saw a YouTube video on teaching them to line out. It said to put the harness on, attach 5-10 ft rope where a tug line would be hooked on, and then tie the other end to a sturdy post/pole giving them 5-10 ft. Then take them out to the end of the line (to where the line is tight) and make them stay. Then you go behind them (like if you were on a sled) and just keep repeating "Line Out" in the same tone of voice/same speed (IF she keeps it tight, if not, take her out to where it's tight and repeat). It said to keep doing that everyday for 5-10 mins and soon they will understand. I Don't know know what to do about "gee".
