1300 miles phew.
That's a trip and a half. I travelled from Nelson House, Manitoba to Phoenix, Arizona & back one time, about 20 years ago. I traveled from Wpg., Manitoba to My Hood, Oregon and back one time. Another time from Wpg. to St.Paul to Chicago to Toronto and then home to where I live now.
But I have a hard time traveling now. My back can no longer take the sitting and getting jarred and jousted about. Even when I ride my bike I gota stop every 1/2-1 hr to stretch and walk around for a bit.
That's one reason I stay home most f the time and keep as active as I can.
On that note, I fell today when I was cutting down "standing dead" & "firekill" trees for firewood. Knocked my helmet off just about knocking me out and somehow hurt my shoulder. I can hardly lift it now and I still gota go feed & after the dogs.
What bugs me most rightnow is my reduced mobility. I'll not be able to mush for a cpl days.
Oh well, so to coin a phrase, "Life's struggles"
Wuchagonadoo?:idunno

Maybe not quite 1,300 but fairly close. I just picked a town in central Manitoba and calculated it. Ouch! You'll be okay. :) maybe it's just a little sore.

Good. I'm kinda jealous. I didn't settle into mushing for the love of it till just a few years ago.
Actually I guess that's a lie. I've always loved the idea of it for more rec as opposed to work.
It's just that now I appreciate the viability and merit of the working aspect of it.
Anyhow, why I say I'm jealous is your so young and already know this is what you want and you have the support.
Even today I still do most of what I do, all by myself. Just me and the Almighty on my side.
Bin like that pretty well all m life.
If you ( or anyone else for that matter) are ready to accept that you may be doing it totally on your own with only The Almighty to help then you are already ahead of the game.
Life is a 4 letter word. It starts with W.
apparently our belief systems have similarities. Cool.

:) I really don't know how to respond to that... But yeah. I'm confused with the LIFE part starting with W.... Will? Want? :idunno

I'd also like to travell to more races. Even if it's just to be there. I don't necessarily need or even want to compete.
Shoot! Lied again. I'd love to compete.
It's just that my dogs are freighters not racers and I like it that way.
One of my dreams is to stage a race on my grandfathers old HBC frieghting route. I think it's about 1500miles.
It will be the most gruelling race of all races. Not so much because of length but more because of load. Everyone would be required to have at least 750lbs on their sled at every checkpoint. Maybe as much as 1000.
Anyhow the race here that I've been discussing with some people would most likely still be "on" when you are old enough to make it here on your own. Needless to say you'd be staying with me and my family.
It ain't the Hilton (HA,) but there's room aplenty for you and your team and gear.

Phew! That's long! I'd love to come and just watch. That's a lot of weight too. (And I thought 100 miles (Jr. Race to The Sky) was a lot!) It would be awesome to come to participate, but I'd need 16-18 just to start. Most would have to be Mals, or mostly Mal. I don't think little tiny Alaskans (compared to freighting dogs) would be able to pull 750-1,000 pounds for 1,500 miles. Because the Iditarod is 1,000 something miles, they start with 16 Alaskans, but they don't haul that much weight. Yeah, maybe I'll come watch/help out at checkpoints. It would be perfect for people that have freighting dogs, not sprint dogs bred for going fast. :)

Nalas from racing lines.
Her breeder bought her parents from a racer. I dontmknow who, but nalas got it in her

Maybe someday you will be able to do a small race (to start with) if you keep Hank, you've already got part of your team! So if you were to do a 4 mile race, you've got half your team. :)

I would like to run the Jr. Race to the Sky next year. I believe it's a six-eight dog race for that one

I've seen some BIG Alaskan huskies before. One named Nibs I though was a wolf when I met him. It's weird. Anyway, I'm trying to convince my mom to let me go dog shopping. This summer I want to work as a handler for a friend of the family who runs Sibs. Only problem is my folks have to take care if the animals if I go...

Found a kicksled on CL... Do I go for it??

I'm not sure if it's worth it as we don't get a ton of snow. Opinions?
I would try to find a scooter instead

since you don't get a lot of snow. Kick-sleds, personally, only work well with one dog and aren't really designed for mushing, but you can use one
