So, Cinna (9 months old) is only about 30 pounds but a speed demon. She is super fast and there is definite leader potential. We went on a 1 mile training run with her in double lead with Sprite (11 year old female) and Deluxe (10 year old male) single wheel pulling the bike. Cinna did amazing and I think she's got potential to even run single lead in time. We took it slow and easy and Cinna kept the line tight while running but not while we were hooking up. She was a little hyper to stand still but she doesn't know much better yet. She will be a little over a year when the snow starts to fly so it will be perfect timing to start training on the snow. Then when Race to The Sky rolls around, she will be almost 1 1/2 years old; good racing age. Plus I (might) be using a friend/mentor's dogs so I will throw Cinna in there as well. I'm so excited! I just hope she gains at least another 10-15 pounds by then. Ugh, it is entirely too hot to do anything. Even at night it only gets to 60F. :( :hit

I just awoke from a much needed recuperative nap.
90F is usually the very hottest we get here and usually in the end of July. Now, we've got record highs of 105F in June/July. Gah! Much much too hot. Also doesn't help when there's a drought and the irrigation water is being shut off until August. Normally I would just take the dogs out to the pond and let them cool off there but no irrigation water = no pond =

Yay for the pups. Wapusk is a beautiful dog. Bulldozer looks a little goofy in that pic. Hopefully they aren't inbred. If they are, it's not the end of the world. After all, Wapusk and Bulldozer are only half siblings so it wouldn't be too awful. Bugs; the Mosquitos aren't so bad here but the grasshoppers are terrible!
So I wanna go make sure Wapusk's pups are in the doghouse, not laying around outside where she gave birth. I put on long rubbers because there is a lot of poison ivy along the trail to the dog area. ....now Pipoon's pups are running loose!!!!It starts to pour...coldish...saturated....Got them in and collared them all and tied the ring leaders/escape artists. I got really chewed by the seeming trillions of mosquitoes and am reeling from the effort of catching and tethering escapees. Before I stumbled back to the house itching like I took a bath in fibreglass insulation I checked Wapusk's pups again. healthy and full of good mama's milk. I'm seriously considering spay/neuter for this bunch, just to ensure against "inbreeding" "malfuntions". Yes it's true Wapusk&Bulldozer do have different dads and even if they are the parents they are only half siblings but like I said, I don't wanna take a chance. I just can't seem to get past the yuck

factor of like me marrying and having kids with my half sister. Eeeerrrrrrsh. ooooooh the wonders and joys of being a musher

Ooh, I like the last three. Mainly because there is room for gear/injured dog and it looks a little heavier so you could probably hook up more dogs and still be safe. The cabin sounds like a good idea. It'd be nice to have a space just for gear and sleds.
Yeah eh. They do have that appeal for e too that way. As well, my terrain kinda requires a bit more "robust" build. Oh ya, the MadMax is actually the first 4wheeled 1. I like it because I really wanna use the roads for training. I would even go to the shopping centre here at home once the dogs are used to the highway environment like sounds, routes, traffic, free roaming dogs etc. It wouldn't take me long to rig up a nice big cargo area/spot/basket. Heck I'd probably find a way to put suspension on the rear wheels.
The cabin....Judging by the way things are going in my home right now, putting up with the volatile idiosyncrasies of my 3 older dotrs(& their lazy BOYfriends(not men)

) and Mom too, this cabin may well be the saving grace for my sanity. LOL

(hysterically).
ItS purpose is utilitarian but a real perk is it's gona be a little beaut too ...when I finish. Heck I may even put wheels under it for mobility to out laying areas. ooooo

wow.yeah eh. Them little ones sure got spunk. Same with Oreo, small, light and fast. and a bugger to keep going. As for weight...???? I dono. If she gets too much weight on a small light boned frame.......could turn out bad for her. As long as she is healthy, happy+energetic.
Point...My grand neice is 5. She weighs well over 100 lbs. She's a sweetheart, happy, kind, loving, respecrful and enjoys life, But lets face it, she's way to fat to be running and jumping around the way she tries because she's always hurting herself. She ends up in cast or bandage and weazing and coughing, practically on the verge of collapsing. The docs and I agree, she's healthy other than the fact she's, plainly put, too darn fat. So long as Cinna is healthy enough to eat as much as she needs to keep up her energy I would be OK with that as opposed to putting on unnecessary perhaps even destructive weight.
I can tell you're excited about snow. I can relate. There's lots of prep though so thankfully I have some "off season" weather for line training, sled repairs, house building, etc, etc, etc, etc,.....
Oh your weather sounds horrid. At least we get some relief from the heat at night. Well, most nights. We don't have AC. We just leave all the windows open at night. We have fans forcing the inside air out the windows on the main floor and the fresh air flowing in the upper story windows. In the morning we take the fans out of the windows, close all the windows and put the fans on the floor. Works well, until someone gets the idea to cook a large meal.

Hey Rose. I couldn't find your thread about feeding raw. Mind you I ran out of patience. I was looking at different threads but BYC seems to be moving really slow on my computer, sooo....
Any ways, there is a whole series of pages on feeding raw. It dispels a lot of myths about feeding raw and is chock full of facts regarding K9's and feeding them I couldn't find the link if you google "Myths About Feeding Raw" it would take you right to it.
It's kinda scary though too because it also tells what commercial dogfood contains. EEEeew!
Also, you are still way cool young. There is lots of time for Dropped racing dogs. Take your time and use what you have handy. Geez if I was young as you and had even half the knowledge that I have now, DANG, I would effect some changes. But first I would slow down a bit and enjoy some sunrises and sunsets, and entire days....just sitting there appreciating what I have, what God gave already gave me..
KUZ IT SURE GETS CRAZY WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS! AND BILLS. AND A WHOLE CRAPLOAD OF OTHER RESPONCIBILITIES> LOL. It's got perks too though. I get free hugs and kisses, "Thank you"s, adoring looks, lap-warmings, all with no sexual connotations.
opini went to new home today. She will like it there more than my home. New boss is way more patient & loving than me.
Nice and big rangy(rAnjee) wolfy looking(Dang. he looks so much like a wolf) ayimisiw will probably be next., As it turned out today he's the kind I don't trust with kids.
. T'would be nice to have him on a team. I no longer have the patience to deal with some idiosyncrasies.
We'll see what happens though. If I can't get him to a new home that can treat him just as good if not better than me I will keep him and hopefully things will work out.

Running in town would be cool but remember that kids like to pet the "pretty puppies" and if something were to happen, you'd be responsible. Plus you'd need a place to keep them when you aren't with them. The cabin is a really good idea then. Especially if the people in your house are driving you crazy. Good thinking.

I don't want her over weight but I think her bone structure still has some growing to do. Her 4 brothers range from 37 to 42 pounds at 9 months so she should reach 35-37 by this fall. Cinna was the runt, though. But I think what she lacks in size she will make up for in leadership ability. We might actually get to run tomorrow night! High of 73F (day) and low of 48F (night). We are gonna do some night training, I do believe. Next week will be 83-84F so it's cooling off for now. We don't have AC either so I spend most of my time in the basement (where it's a steady 65F) during the hottest part of the day. Plus there are fans upstairs and we open the doors to let the breeze in. Still entirely waaaay too hot to do anything productive.

"runt' I firmly believe the saying "If you can't run with the big dogs stay on the porch." has quite the truth in it. I think also that dogs somehow recognise that. "night run"...what time does it get dark there. We have very long days where I live. Still light enough at 12:30-1:00 to see without a flashlight. And then it starts getting light again about 3:30. So if I wanted to night run I gota wait till at least 11 B4 it cools down a bit or get up @ 4:30 everyday. Mind you, I usta do that. getting old and lazy I guess. Gota keep in mind too, my dogs are doule coated. Some actually have a longer dbl coat. It'd be deadly running in this heat If we open windows during the day the house just gets way too hot. 90F is easily reached. Our homes are built to keep warm in winter so it works vice-versa in summer if we aint lazy to get up and shut windows that is. When it gets really hot I try to do just minimal chores, water, water, water and feed my animals. Of course there are other things but I get sunstroke easy now so ....
Yo everyone. This is a good deal. I would probably put kinda knobby tires on the back axel. Overall though this is pretty much all that's necessary. and for the price!!!!! it's killer.$160.00Cdn. Alberta. 403-282-0581

Sweetheart you are still quite young enuf to do it when you are more independent. I too had to do every thing alone ever since I left home @ 14.
Geez, I was 10 when I got my first paid job. $10 /day for helping my grampa haying. I would stack and skid. That means the bales(40-50ls) would come out of the baler and I would stack them on the "boat" and then stick a crowbar in the ground between the rails and skid the stook onto the ground. Then I would run to catch-up and jump on the "boat" and do it all over. 350+ bales a day 5 bales to a stook. Then we would get the wagons and load them up. I would throw the first 2 levels and Grampa would stack, then Grampa would throw the next 4 levels and I would stack.
OOOPS. kyna went rambling there didn't I..
Anyway my point is There is lots of time to do what you want when you are a position to afford it either/and financially, mentally and physically. And of course emotionally. Regarding Hank, I would take him and train him. Maybe even use him for his physical traits in my atimnoosayss(female K9). Bad news abot Opini...She died. She seemed healthy then all of a sudden she was gone. I put her to rest in a quiet spot with a beautiful view of the sunset. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
