So. The rest of the pups are getting big. they are already as tall or taller than their half brothers and sister. nikanastim(foremost dog) isn't as friendly as I hoped, misseemokoman(big knife(name change)) is friendly and gentle, muhseenawseeu(he /she is pinto marked) is really friendly and yappy, nuhayeekoohk(nic of time) could be friendlier, sihpeekuhseeu(he's blue) is friendly enuf, and ahyihmmihseeu(he/she is mannered stern/austere/hard)is still really un approachable but getting better. All the pups are developing better more approachable "dog"analities since I have taken them out of the kennel and chained them. 1 more point for chains.
ahyihmihseeu really looks like a wolf, the way he carries his tail, the way he walks, moves, even the way he looks at someone. really wolflike mannerisms. Even his great huge paws are wolfy. him be mistahee atim(BIG K9).
I would really like to post some pix but it never seems to work out. Maybe if I had my own mobile phone/camera that I knew how to use.LOL.
So anyhow, I have already started training/conditioning my older teams. I take each 1 for walks with them wearing their harness pulling a weight of about 40lbs. By the time winter comes they will be "chomping at the bit" and recognizing they gota pull their own weight. OMG!!winter!!! It seems like such a distant beautiful memory right now

.
It's so hot here now. even at night it barely cools off till about 3AM. Then I gota get up and close the windows by 730AM bkuz it's already warming-up out side.
My poor dogs. I gota water them 3X /day. I only feed every 2nd day because it's too much energy(hot) for them and they leave a lot of their food in the dishes so the ravens and magpies to eat it. I aint paid or paying to feed them darn birds.LOL
So I work with my dogs early in the day and/or on cloudy days when it aint so blasted hot.
Other than that I am gathering traditional medicines and doing odd jobs for $$ and of course the regular chores.
Gee, I haven't even gone to the beach this year yet. Yuck

anyways. Our beautiful lake is being turned into a huge cesspool

by the government's lax policies regarding pollution. It's a horrible mess now. There is a new bacteria that causes ALS in higher percentage of younger ppl. Even by swimming in the lake we are exposed to this. Why they woud do something like this is baffling to me.

Well maybe not, they have always done their utmost to take away the true independence of the peoples. This is probably just another "buffalo annihilation" tactic if I know them(gov).
ooooooooooo. Aint I capricious and snippy today.
Better go.
Blessings and salutations to y'all.

oh gee, I forgot to tell y'all Wapusk(pippoon's daughter) had pups. 2 males and 2 females. 1 very large female died at around 2 days and the other, A tiny 1 died at just over a week. The males are doing very well on all the extra milk available to them. 1 pup is Blk/W w/1 blu eye & 1 brn eye and the other pup is solid clean white with brn eyes. The B/W is friendly and outgoing. The white is a bit bigger but kyna shy. As I said earlier I sure would to be able to get pix up...

CUTE!!!

I live on the Oregon Coast and ran dogs for about 8 years. I had Siberians, Alaskans, Labradors, Belgian Malinois, and Belgian Tervuren. My leaders were one of the Tervuren and a Siberian *****. Yes, we run on the Oregon coast. We call it dune mushing. That doesn't mean we didn't go to the snow and run sometimes as well. There were several folks who completed the Iditarod who started their training year on the dunes. Just as I was getting out they made a narrow little dune cart that could be used for one or two dogs (any more would have been suicidal) I weighed well over 200 pounds at the time, on wheels 6 dogs were plenty, less if I got off and pushed on the hard places. 8-12 was way more fun. A lot of work, a lot of training, a lot of time, a lot of fun. See the following web site, http://oregondunemushers.com Alas, none are photos of my dogs, but I have been to all those places.

I think I'm going to use an old go cart for fall training. I'm going to gut it( bad motior) and make it lighter. Leaving the seat and breaks and steering wheel.
I'll get pics

Look into what the dune mushers use, they started with a go cart, built a stanchion up to stand behind with a steering wheel, and used old airplane tires on the go-cart wheels. The tires allow us to run on the winter (mostly wet) sand. Since Oregon is a wet place (well the coast has lots of moisture) even some days in the late spring and end of August we can run on what is called the deflation plain.

Awesome!

Sled dogs are suppose to be skinny. Meringue is only 35 pounds. Some dogs are just small dogs, despite their blood line. You don't want fat on a working sled dog. How much does he weight now? Can you post pics, including one looking down on him?

There is a bit of difference between "be skinny" and "look skinny". My friend's dogs came back from the Iditarod looking like they had escaped from a camp somewhere in Germany. They each WEIGHED 6-10 pounds MORE than when they traveled up from Oregon. Muscle weighs more than fat and hair. His team could jerk a full sized 4x Ford truck with two level dog box around the parking lot if nobody was nearby to enforce their stay (yes, our dogs knew "stay" along with command turns and whoa - except when they were fresh) As for command leaders, the fellow whose team I am talking about used to show off by writing his initials on the sand/snow just by telling his team "gee" and "haw". They didn't need a cross trail or fork to follow to turn when told.

Hi spiritbrook.

New member. So you raise chickens and mush? dang eh..we must some kinda special ppl. Chickens and (esp) Huskies do not get along. At least from my personal experiences.

WOW. Oregon Dune Mushing. Can't say I've even had an inclination for such but I can see "Where there's a will there's a way." is affirmed. I bet the dogs are happy to get wet(& cooled-off) once they get used to the water. It's been really hot here lately and I only now and then go out early in the morning or after dark. It kinda sux. But hey, winter is coming....sooner or later...and I'll be OK.

"6-10 pounds MORE" "Muscle weighs more than fat and hair." Yes, so true. I weigh 186 and ppl remark that I look 160. And I can totally relate to the awesome power they have. Even at a personal level.LOL. My dogs easily pull a sled full of wood 5 miles to home. I would venture to guess it weighs anywhere between 4&8 hundred depending on different variables.
"writing his initials on the sand/snow just by telling his team "gee" and "haw"."

That's good stuff.

Send him here. I'm getting too old, cranky, gimped, impatient and lazy

to train a new leader as good as the old ones I had.
"They didn't need a cross trail or fork to follow to turn when told." My current leader(9)is good like that but his running-mate(Ashleigh(10?)) died this summer and last spring his littermate brother/running-mate(Tagaluk) died too.. ....so he lost a lot of his "security". It's gona be a tuff start this winter with all the young rangy-tang males in the line-up vying for top-dog position.
OOOps. Fell asleep on my armchair(rockin my onesy(my baby bought for Xmas))
Anyways, I can hardly wait for winter. Or at least cooler weather. I figure the end of the 1rst week to the end of the 3rd week of Sept...at this rate.
G-nyt all. pleasant dreams.
