thanks for the info. ill try everything you said. maybe if i lived closer i would love to have given him to some one who does what you guys do. i originally found him on the street in PR skin and bone. but unfortunately there arent any mushers on the island.

i have taken him to the forest and climbed a mountain with him. he seemed to have acted like if it were nothing.
Well, I hope you two enjoy running together

Hey Rez, can I get some pictures of the dogs? I need to prove that I didn't make this up to my folks.
Hi Blue. I found a folder inside a folder inside a folder inside a........ LOL
The pic of Oreo is just cropped from the background of another. I couldn't find a good one of her.
Keyno is Sibe(grandfather)/BorderCollie(grandmother)dad's side//Sibe/Sibe on mom's side. So 3/4 Sibe & 1/4 BC. I've had her hooked-up a cpl times and she likes to go. Like a real BC she loves running and working. I think Keyno will be a good addition to any kennel that has an interest in dogs that like running. She has nice feet and bones and she is friendly and kind. She just needs more work. Although Keyno has shown a bit of female aggression to Pippoon and Tulip, all the other females and every male is considered a playmate to her.
The only drawback with Keyno is that she aint one to gobble her food like the rest. She`s sorta picky but will eventually eat everything. She doesn't relly like any kind of kibble I`ve ever fed any of my dogs. She does seem to like fishicles(frozen fish). She is a sweetheart though. I think she would make a good part-time couch potatoe.

Angel is over 85%Sibe with some Qimmiq, Arctic Wolf and Old Line DeneDog. Actually this might even be a pic of his brother Julios or uncles Patrick or Snowy. They look so much alike. Pix just have numbers on them. I've never had Angel hooked up but if he's anything like his grt granny, his gran, his mom, his uncles, his sister, his grt grampa, his grampa.... They were all hardworking K9's. He hasn`t been worked with at all since he is only a year in June....I think. & he aint real friendly but not aggressive. Just ``not worked with``. If he`s like all his bloodlines he will be great once he`s had some time spent with him.

Oreo is from Hawkman's kennel. I got her from my racing musher buddy because she was considered too small. She's got about 1/4 GSHP. She's not big on stature but dang she works hard. I like telling ppl "Her tug is like a guitar string all the time." If I had 10 dogs like her I would not be 1 darn bit shy or afraid to enter any darn sprint race anywhere. She's awesome. And she's real darn sweetheart. If I had more space and $$ resources I would keep her but I think (and feel) she deserves a home where she will be utilized and loved more than I have time for.

Sparticus is the one my racing musher buddy took from an abusive musher. He's a bit shy and not 1 you would want to get loose. He'd be hard to catch because he's so shy. He is a sweet guy though. He has never shown any kind of aggression to any other dog or human. He is a decent trail leader but I have never had him in open country as lead. Sparticus is another dog that always keeps his line tight. Maybe not always at a gallop but tight all the time. Good feet, good stomach, good bones, good feet, He's just an all-around good dog other than the fact he`s shy. Again, if things were different I would keep him. He too deserves to be utilized and loved more than I can give him though.

long and short.... too many dogs x too few $$+time = `need to find new homes for some.`

So....like I said if you were to breed Sparticus to Oreo you will for sure get some crazy awesome sprinters(Euro-hound type). If you were to breed Angel to Keyno you got the looks, the feet, the coat, the bones. and of course the desire to pull. Maybe not as fast as Sparticus and Oreo but still... Now if you were to take the pups of these 2 unions and breed them I`m pretty sure you`ll get awesome ``Iditarod type`` K9`s.
Of course it`s always a crap shoot but in this case I think it`s closer to an educated guess. Remember.....attitude comes from the mom. so if you want instinctively good pullers watch for it in the mom. Coats, size,(physical attributes) can be bred into it from a male. However if the dad has it then it is almost ascertained the pups will have it.
That`s why most of my lines go back to 1 female, Mispoon(ArctiWolf X Qimmiq). Actualy, Tasha(showSibe X Seppalla Sibe) is in there too. She was also an awesome puller. Even when she was 10 and had already birthed 6 litters she still worked very hard.

So...anyways. I`ve been on here(computer) far too long. I`m getting a bit antsy. Time to go outside.

. It`s only -2*C or 28*F. It`s windy and feels cold on the skin but way too warm to mush but there always lots to do around here.

I think you've found yourself a good friend. And good looking. I'm happy for him(dog) that you found him and you are taking care of him.
If I were more into racing and in your area I would take him if you didn't want him.
FYI...I have no idea what PR means.

Blue. I enjoyed the link. I gota get onto the iPad though. This laptop aint so good with videos of any kind.
Geez, and BYC is slow nowadays eh. No matter what computer or whatever I am on BYC is very slow and riddled with problems of all kinds. It sometimes takes me an hour or so to write a msg.
So anyways. I found some old pix I wana share with everyone. Gona try put them up now.
This is my main team of 06. back to front, lft to rt...
Miss Princess Qimmiq, Mispoon's Equinox Qimmiq of Brutus, Robin's Baby of Wistaykoosit, Mispoon's Rufous Borealis, Tasha's Robin of Wahstayap, and t*k's Okimaw. Okimaw was my best lead dog ever. He was 13 in this pic. Robin was a very decent leader too but she liked visiting and tended to losing focus while in areas with loose-running dogs but she listened when I got stern.
In my teams the order of position starting from sled is, wheel, swing, team,,, point, lead.
A great huge, powerful, gentle, happy, hard working beasty, Equinox ran every position except lead. He is 8 in this pic taken with handler. He is the one that died from twisted stomach the spring of 07. He had just turned 9. Regal is his almost look-a-like 1/2 brother.

This is Mispoon's Sayqooh Qimmiq of Rascal. In 06 he was 5. Another hard driving happy friendly K9, He was my main wheel, swing or team with his brother NeeGyeetooq. They even ran point once when I had to switch after a long run of 9 hrs. He died in 2011 of a mosquito borne disease. The vet says it affected his brain with bad swelling.
I love that color and I am actively looking for old line (pure blood)Sibe with this coloration. It's pretty hard to come by because everyone thinks that Sibes only come in the perfect Irish standards markings and coloring.

K. Lunch is over & I gota get back outside. Spring cleaning the chicken coop.

It's now +2*C or +34*F. It's practically suntan weather.

I hope y'all enjoy my yarning as opposed to being bored by it. HAGD

When I get a job I'm getting a trained leader lol love training them my way but I need some experience on the team lol

LOL. Ya I like training my own way too.
If you buy a trained leader you need to know he or she may or may not do well with/for you.
In 1986 we spent $10G
ep.gif
on 10 dogs. the male leader was pretty darn good but the female was horrible. She was stubborn,
he.gif
submissive aggressive, sneaky ... She absolutely would not pull worth doodely-squat much less lead the way a $1,000.00, a highly praised-up(by the previous owner) 5 yr old lead-dog was supposed to be. We thought she just wouldn't work for us because we weren't "her" people, you know, the family she grew up with... Stuff like that does happen someitmes
If you are serious, find a serious musher that will take you under his/her wing and spend time with you as you spend time with the leader you wana buy from him/her..
hey....... There's a job for you. Handler for a musher.

Pay aint so great but there sure is a lot of other payoffs.

it isnt that i dont want baxter it is just that if i knew someone who did what you guys do i would give him up to that person just so he could get the exercise he needs and wants. if it makes baxter happy i would just be happy he is happy.

ohh sorry PR stands for Puerto Rico.

Wow. Puerto Rico. I would like to go there one day. I think I would have a blast in the jungle and mountains. I aint much of a one for towns/cities.
Judging by Google Maps it appears there is a lot of ppl there(PR) with all the towns and cities and roads. I appears that a lot of the forest and natural world has been destroyed for people and there aint really that much room for wild life either. But I bet sunrise is beautiful with bird song eh.
So..ya...wow.. PR. LOL, even if you did not wana keep him and I was willing to take him off your hands it would be an adventure just to go pick him up. An expensive adventure.
th.gif
For me anyhow.
Judging by your comment about you running and venturing into the mountains I think he'll get enough exercise. Probably more than mine get in summer(here). It gets way too warm to have much exercize for my furry K9's. They are winter dogs through and through. It can be done before it gets hot, like, very early...like 4 or 4:30AM because the sun rises about 430. Or late in the evening after it cools off a bit. The sun sets about 10:30-11:pM here mid-June through July into August, so very long days and some of them can get to +35*C or a bit better and sometimes stays warm all night. Not like the Tropics or such but still too warm for my dogs to run 5 or 10 miles pulling a cart.
But I don't really like getting up that early or staying up so late anymore. Maybe I'm just getting
old.gif
too old, or
caf.gif
too lazy, or rather too comfortable......
Anyways...LOL...I'm so gabby sometimes.. So I think Baxter is in good hands. Cool name by the way. And thank you for the vote of confidence.

So, the question is open to all players. Taking into consideration the price of expedition sleds on today's market, mine is made to take about 1700-1900 lbs, hold together and is "beyond pretty", what do y'all think my sled should sell for? Reason.....I may be putting it up as a prize in a dogsled race hosted here next year. Or I may just have it as a fund raiser to help host the race here next year. Input on that(the race). Weight? Length(miles/kilometres). How many dogs in Lenght/Weight. Course(bush, hills, swamp, field/meadow(we've no mountains here. Just drumlins, eskers and moraines.)). A mix(or not) Length/Weight. I think a 4 dog sprint of 5 miles with a weight of 25lbs in the sled and a 2 dog 1&1/2mile empty sled sprint over just a flat well dressed trail is almost a must. Of course the winners circle payoffs will reflect how many sleds are entered but a cup or trophy of some sort will be presented. And my cup of tea is a longer trail with many different terrain challenges and heavy load. Probably 200 or more miles and 500lbs plus all gear like camping, cooking and survival gear hunting, trapping articles. Maybe some emergency measure stuff. Of course a GPS with an SOS beacon. I don't know if that'll happen right away but I have it in my head that it will happen sooner or later. So ladies, start your preparations. Y'all are on my list of first to be invited.:D
Must have skipped ove this one.... Price of your sled: I'd pay anywhere from $600-$1600 (USD) possibly more depending on age, anything that needs fixed, etc. Remember that I don't know much about it nor about expedition sleds. It definetly looks like it could take a beating (not like the sled I bought and the brushbow & basket broke the first run we went on and we had to replace it with metal/alluminum ((I'm good a breaking things  )) and would last through some tough trail. Race: Count me in! I'm not sure my smaller dogs are anywhere near as strong as your beautiful dogs but, we can sure try. It'd be great if you got it to be an Iditarod/Yukon Quest qualifier, draw in a bigger crowd..... Just something to think about.
I took the liberty of looking closely at the design and "put in a few things here and removed a few things there". Just a cpl slight changes will make it stronger and easier. Stronger in that it won't have a buncha stuff just floating and need more "attachers" and easier in that it wont be as intricate to cut. but still a vary unique vent design. You'll see the little changes when you put the pic (I added) beside the one you posted earlier. Also flipped it so you got 1 for the other side. Oh ya...you don't hafta cut out the eyes since that's where the "attachers" will go. So..... How do you catch a unique rabbit?
I was thinking of cutting out everything that's on the toes. I'd leave the wolf and mountains in the pad but everything else would be cut out.
