Another wierd thing about my EE's are that every so often I will get an egg that has a brown tinged white and smells bad. This even though I pick up the eggs and refrigerate them almost as soon as they are laid. This happens about once a week.

I love my EE and would love to have alot more of them if they all had her personality!

i guess i have to agree with luckitri.... we have one ee, two produciton reds, and a rir. when they were teensy peeps, the ee was my absolute favorite - but for reasons that probably foreshadowed the way she is now: always the first to flutter up to my hands, loved the treats and snack EXTRA lots, very curious about everything (when i was cleaning out the brooder, she was always the one who would walk up my arm, onto my shoulder and peck at my face and watch what i was doing "whatch doin THAT for? what's THAT?"). NOW she is my feather picker (poor rir has had a naked ring around her tail for months now...), flew up onto my roof once this summer (my fault for not trimming wings - and it took feeding her sisters scrambled eggs where she could SEE them to get her to come down...), VERY top of the pecking order - chases the other girls away from the food bowl and treats pretty aggressively. AND to top it off, she is the worst layer. i think she laid for about 5months this year and is now on "winter break". which would be fine if she wasn't also naughty. seriously thinking of rehoming her... :|

I am thinking that there appears to be lots of variations on the "Ameracauna" and it would be nice if we could figure it out prior to buying.

I guess I am thankful I knew ahead of time. We bought 4 chicks today that are 4 days old and they are so cute!

I purchased a few in the last couple of weeks. The Production Red is growing very interestingly with lots of color contrast. I am curious to see what she will look like as it does not appear that she will look like the pictures I have seen.

The Barred Rock is kind of scaring me. At two weeks the tail is so big that I am thinking he is really a rooster. Hope not. Is large tail an early warning sign of a rooster?

My EE lays nice large green eggs consistently...she is laying 5 per week and sometiems 6....I cannot complain about that.

I have 2 that are not old enough to lay but I doubt there will be problems. Mine eat anything you give them and are all friendly.

I love the EEs my RIRs are more fussy and picky than my EEs.

Just to let you know, you are comparing your EE's to production and RIR's. EE's are in NO WAY ever able to compete with birds of that laying compacity. EE's were not bred for egg production but for their colorful eggs. You can't expect every chicken to lay like a RIR. Just enjoy them while you can. Good layers or not they are good chickens.

I have one EE and she is not the friendliest but she is the most beautiful. My babies are 21.5 weeks old and I got my first four eggs this week. I am pretty sure not from her, though! I am looking forward to my first colorful egg!
