americauna stopped laying

Hi, In the heat, they don't lay very well. Another thing is when they go broody they stop laying. Leave a couple eggs in the nest and see if she starts sitting on them. 3 of my best layers went broody this month, so no eggs for the summer.

they get so many eggs when they're born. so ones that don't lay everyday will lay for more years then ones that lay everyday. my three year old leghorns lay 6-7 a week, since 5 months so about 750 so far, my polish 1-2, say eight years, she's about the same.

i'm in ct, we didn't get hot till last week (we had snow in april) she's never gone broody, i can't recall seeing her on the nest lately. how long do they go broody?

my best layer, an EE seems to have gone broody for the last week. No eggs, but she seems very uncomfortable. Any ideas on what I can do for her? I posted a similar question yesterday in another post and someone suggested I give her an egg to sit on. Can anyone tell me why this would help her? Any other ideas?

I got a reply from friend who's chicken lived to be 15 years old and at that age she was still laying, about a dozen a year!! Imagine that, pretty good I'd say!
