Americaunna HEN OR ROOSTER??

Thanks for that info. Sad to know that Silvia is a Sylvester..lol. I see that some mentioned having cockerel EE in the meat pen...we currently (till this wknd) have 5 Cornish X ready for processing. How are the EE as far as meat go? We are new to the whole meat chicken thing too. Don't know if I we would be able to put him on the chopping block since they are my babies (the youngest) and we named her/him already. Hmmmm

Eh, I don't like butchering pet chickens. They're usually only good for soup, if that. Plus, the whole time, you're thinking, "wow, Sylvia sure is chewy".

Maybe you can sell him on Craigslist.

Yeah craigslist sounds like a good idea..had to do that before with a BR. We don't name or pay much attention to the meat birds as to not get attached, but the 'girls' that is a different story altogether lol.

Compared to your broilers, they'll be skinny and tougher. But if you process them before 14 weeks, they will be quite tasty. GREAT for chicken and dumplings or Coq au Vin--anything you simmer low and slow.

If you're processing them yourself, you'll notice that they are a pain to process compared to the broilers. They hold their feathers tightly, and their body cavity is smaller so it's harder to eviscerate.

LOL Just made chix and dumplings tonight with one of the broilers. The EE is posted on craigslist..hoping to trade for a pullet maybe. But thanks for the info..good to know. Hubby will be glad he won't have to process it.
