I read so many posts saying that Amerucuanas are not great layers but my hens started laying a couple of weeks ago and so far my Amerucuana is my best layer (the other two are Barred Rock and Rhode Island Red). How do I know it's her? Because I see a blue egg every day while the others are laying every other day :)
She has a great personality too. Curious, adventurous...
So I went ahead and got two more Amerucuana chicks.
I am a newbie and I love backyard chicken'ing... I have been waiting for this for years and finally I got my own garden to raise chickens.
Yay!

:frow:welcome and welcome to chickens! You could post in the New Members section and maybe get more feedback. I dont raise AMs so im not sure what they lay like but probly they speak of eggs per year or season. She may lay well now but stop earlier in the year than the others or slow down. No matter tho your not looking for amazing production per say your looking for fun eggs from pets :love and she may have lines bred for laying more eggs so u may get 250 a yr from her vs 350 a yr from like a white leghorn. The difference might be subtle and you could mark it on a calander to see just for your own enjoyment. Regardless glad your enjoying a healthier way of life with pets that give back :clap

Welcome to BYC!

Well, Ameraucana can be not such great layers.
Easter Eggers(which is probably what you have if bought at farm store or hatchery) can be much better layers.

You may be right. The store had told me they were Ameracuanas but maybe they are Easter Eggers. I have two egg-loving kids who, after tasting "real" eggs, refuse to eat store bought eggs So the more, the better.
Thank you.
