OK so here is my update. I went to the County (St Lawrence County in northern NY) and asked to view the ordinances. They do state that you cannot have livestock... BUT they also state that there is to be NO accessory uses including non-agricultural gardens. In other words the ordinance states that it's illegal to grow ANY kind of food and no one in town can have rabbits either. Now you try to tell some cute little kid he can't have his bunny. The no gardens thing gets me so I went up to my mayors house stood on the sidewalk and took an awefully nice picture of her huge vegetable garden... wonder how THAT's gonna go over...
The county seat gave me copies of all the surrounding towns ordinances that allow chickens in town (including one university town up here that lets you have them downtown!) and they even helped me write a submission for town council ammendment! The planning board is clearly pro-chicken god love them.
Wish me luck... now I just have to find a council member that is pro-chicken to help me fight to keep my girls. My beautiful baby boy (mille fleur roo) is most likely going to have to be rehomed. I'll only give him over to the right home though.
