hey everyone. my light sussex cockerel and 2 bantam Cochin hens have started to show signs of respiratory problems. the vet said that I should try worming them, and that hasn't made a difference, so she said it was a respiratory problem. I wanted to know if amoxicillin can be used to treat respiratory problems and wanted to know the dose I should give them.
any response and suggestions will be much appreciated
thank you

i suggest tylan50 dose is as follows large birds 1/2cc small birds 1/4 cc once daily for 5 days. tylan is EXCELLENT for respiratory issues! you can give the injection in one of two places nape of neck or breast. i recommend injection because its a bigger punch gets into blood stream faster and dose is controlled a lot of times with water soul able antibiotics the birds aren't drinking as they should be and the dose is comprised. don't worry that the bottle says for cattle and swine many many poultry users including myself use tylan. if you have never given an injection look up on YouTube injecting tylan in chickens. it has a good tutorial on how to do it.if you use tylan50 in a few days your bird should be better! in my health book on chicken health it recommends tylosin or tylan for respiratory issues. hope this is helpful best wishes!

i can read what the bottle says.my bottle says its 50mg of tylosin activity as tylosin base. indicated for use and treatment of respiratory complex. a antibiotic. I've have nothing but good results with tylan. i have several injectable in my kit and for respiratory i prefer tylan over baytril which i also have but if your concerned over using tylan second choice is baytril. however you can NOT find baytril at the feed store and if you buy online MAKE sure you get the real baytril as they substitute often. i would use the tylan.or tylosin if it was my bird. however if your not comfortable use baytril. best wishes.baytril is also effective.

the main problem here is availability. Its gd to know uve had gd results with it many times.
I will try and get hold of a bottle and let's hope it works, fingers crossed.

yes! you SHOULD see results in a few days. it packs a punch with respiratory issues! if you cant get that maybe you can get some baytril. not sure whats available in your area. tylan is a lot stronger than amox... and is made to target respiratory. but second choice is baytril it also will pack a punch toward respiratory. these are much stronger antibiotic. in my chicken health book it recommendeds tylosin or tylan to help with respiratory illness also but if you cant get it do get baytril. my thoughts are with you and please keep us posted! sending you a ((hug)).
