an egg broke inside my silkie hen!

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this.:D It's been my experience that egg bound hens do best when kept in a humid room that is 80-85 degrees.
I have never had an egg bound hen, so I defer to you on that experience, and what's best. I just think she has to do what her mom wants. I grew up having to do as I was told, and to respect my parent's decisions. :old

I definitely have to do what I’m told! She just hasn’t “Told” me I “have to” yet... it was more of a suggestion... if she really tells me to, I will.

Oh my goodness! I just got all caught up on this! I am so sorry @ButtonquailGirl14 !!!

My Cochin Iris had an egg break inside her shortly after she began laying last year. She was hunched and lethargic, too, and was making awful noises. I thought it was a shell-less egg because I saw the yolk and albumen but no shell on the roost/poop board one morning.

I gave her calcium, too, and soaked her. She kept straining to pass the shell. It took her 3 days (I think, give or take a day) to finally pass it all. Luckily for Iris, most of the shell was still kinda attached to the membrane and I was able to kind of pull it out of her eventually.

I thought Iris was laying internally. I was sure of it because she stopped laying afterwards for weeks. But she started laying again 3 or 4 months later. I don't want to give you false hope, but my hen recovered and isn't suffering from any reproductive problems as far as I can tell.

I don't think there is anything else you can do at this point. Calcium and soaking and antibiotics. Maybe lubricating inside her vent a bit. And loving the heck out of her.

Oh, how I am hoping it all turns out well!!! :fl:fl:fl:fl:fl:fl
