an egg broke inside my silkie hen!

Oh my goodness! I just got all caught up on this! I am so sorry @ButtonquailGirl14 !!!
:hugs:hugs:hugs

My Cochin Iris had an egg break inside her shortly after she began laying last year. She was hunched and lethargic, too, and was making awful noises. I thought it was a shell-less egg because I saw the yolk and albumen but no shell on the roost/poop board one morning.

I gave her calcium, too, and soaked her. She kept straining to pass the shell. It took her 3 days (I think, give or take a day) to finally pass it all. Luckily for Iris, most of the shell was still kinda attached to the membrane and I was able to kind of pull it out of her eventually.

I thought Iris was laying internally. I was sure of it because she stopped laying afterwards for weeks. But she started laying again 3 or 4 months later. I don't want to give you false hope, but my hen recovered and isn't suffering from any reproductive problems as far as I can tell.

I don't think there is anything else you can do at this point. Calcium and soaking and antibiotics. Maybe lubricating inside her vent a bit. And loving the heck out of her.

Oh, how I am hoping it all turns out well!!! :fl:fl:fl:fl:fl:fl
Thank you so much!:hugs I hope I have a similar story :fl

should I?

Antibiotics won't help get the egg out, that's for sure.
They can help cure an infection, or keep one from starting--but it still must be the right antibiotic to kill whatever germs are causing a problem (some germs are resistant to some antibiotics.)

My opinion is that you should not give her antibiotics unless she shows signs of an actual infection. Knowing if you are ABLE to give antibiotics can be useful in case you need to.

@ButtonquailGirl14, can you tell us where on these pictures you feel the egg and where you feel the eggshells?
