An experiment to hatch hens working?

The male determines the sex of the offspring since they have a 50/50 chance of passing the x or the y chromosome. The female has nothing to do with it since they will always contribute a x chromosome.

Females = XX
Males = XY

This is determined at conception. At least that is how it works in most animals.

However, in thebritt's defense - I have heard the temp determines the sex of the chick from my mother

Wow. I learned something new. I did not know that the female chicken determined the sex of the chick. I wonder if some hens are more likely to produce female offspring?

It's true, the hen determines the sex of chicks, not the rooster.
