So "Hello there" to you all!

A little history on me and my family and how we ended up here at BYC. My Husband is a vet (combat medic,UH-60 crew chief) who suffered severe PTSD. The severity of the condition led to his inability to fly helicopters anymore and was forced into retirement (after 26 years) after leaving his last tour of Iraq.
We had never known a life outside of the military. Once it happened, we had to leave the lifestyle we had been accustomed to and enter into a new one. Now we are restoring an 1800's farm house and decided that having chickens, ducks and a large garden would help the whole family adjust to a new country lifestyle outside of a big city without the perks of a cable internet and many other things that come with a metro community. It was a difficult adjustment ..at first.

.Now this is where the BYC community comes into the story...

Once the idea of getting chickens came up I had a TON of questions, and many doubts. I took to the internet and every time I looked up a question I had or the family had, I seemed to end up here at BYC. My family has reaped the benefits ! We love our chickens, ducks and our enormous garden. It's a lot of work but we do it together as a family and it has brought us closer than ever before. We have 10 lovely hens, 13 pullets and one mighty Roo.

I finally decided to join up after a few months of perusing this wonderful site because with 2 girls sitting on eggs I know I will have more questions..

A big "thank you!" for becoming my "go-to resource" to many of the questions that have come up since my family decided to begin homesteading. I can't thank the many authors of the posts that have been so kind to impart their wisdom because to be honest I've used the site so often I've forgotten the ones who authored all the threads. Needless to say, I've lurked long enough.

and I would like to thank your husband for his many years in service. Most people here consider watching chicken TV to be a great stress reducer- no cable bills, no reruns, new shows every day.
Some even choose to have chickens as housepets, where the chicken watches people TV from a shared recliner.

Hey there diva

. Thank you for the kind welcome! Yes we love our chicken tv. Speaking of "housepet chickens " I suppose should have mentioned my sons Silkie who has become sort of a house pet since we found she was very different than the other girls and had to separate her from the flock. i'm pretty sure we will have to get her a buddy soon. I worry about her becoming lonely even though she spends loads of time with us in the garden and with my son in his room or out on walks.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your flock and the upcoming broody hatches! Thanks to your husband and your family for his years in service

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Thank you for all the years of service your husband gave to this country! Good luck with the old house. They can be a lot of work but well worth it in the end.

Enjoy all your adventures in life and welcome to our flock!
