I got a call duck egg today that didnt have any shell on it. I dropped it by mistake and it just bounced and stay all good. Now i was wondering. Is there any chance of incubating the egg with no shell. Is there any chance of doing this. ?Has anyone tried? Because the membrane is so strong i thought maybe.

Hmm. Very interesting question.

You might have done the internals of the egg some damage when you dropped it, but, speaking generally for any soft shelled egg, I'd imagine that you could incubate it but you'd have to use much higher humidity than normal as evaporation through the soft shell would be much faster than for a normal egg. I'd also imagine (if it made it that far) that the chick struggling to get into the normal hatching position could burst the membrane before it was ready to hatch. Overall I think the chance of getting a live and healthy chick would be very very low.

Would be interesting to try it though...
