Ancona Chicken Thread

The anconas I got from Ideal in June 2012 both started laying at 23 weeks (late November). I didn't have a scale until January and at that point their eggs were coming in near the low end of USDA Medium. They didn't consistently hit Large until March. They were predictably laying 58g or 60g eggs by May. They had some range that summer, sometimes as big as mid 60s or even 70g. When they started back up in Spring 2014 they rarely laid anything but 60g or 62g, very consistent.

Hi all a long time stalker. first time poster here.

We got 4 new baby chicks for Christmas and they are great never had baby's just the standard Isa browns layer chooks.

Well in the last 6 weeks we have been on a fun ride we purchased 2 week old sexed baby's with 70% chances etc..... one was a rooster, Chloe was a ChloHE clearly by 6 weeks.

We now have 4 baby's one white leghorn, one silver pencilled Wyandotte one we believe is a old English batman was told she was a brown ancona but I'm not sure. you tell me.

she's ruby my profile pic

and Feather she is a black ancona as so sweet, she was sick this week, woke up one morning and she was struggling to breath crinkly and gasping, cleared her nose and added vapour to help she did well, so I stalked some of the emergency threads and took her to the vet, she on antibiotics doing well really scared us.

The resign for my reading lots from this thread is Feather is now 8-9 weeks old and I believe her to be a girl and know the comb has to develop at some time but is starting now to go red I wanted to be reassured that feather is a girl, cos we will be devastate if she's a boy,

Here's more from about 10 days ago

All 4 of them are about the same age but feather has the most comb and waddle development, please give me good news.

thanks all

I have never heard of a brown Ancona, as far as I know they only come in black and white.

Your bird looks more like a speckled Sussex, what color are the legs?

Feathers looks to be a pullet.

Hello! I am in East Tennessee and would love to purchase some Ancona hatching eggs or chicks. Other than the large hatcheries like Murray Mcmurry, does anyone have a recommendation? I have ordered chicks (other breeds) from the large hatcheries and its been hit and miss on the quality of the birds. I would like to find breeding quality birds. Thanks!

Guess i will know better when shes starts laying eggs. But dont think shes a red Ancona

Shes very fligty and her nick name is flash but very very friendly first to run over for a cuddle
