And i always thought the lay in the AM! I am new to chicken life and have two laying hens and four "teens"
My old ladies (18m and I got them three weeks ago) lay at 9 am and 12 pm today the eggs "popped" at 11am and 4 pm ... Doesn't seem like the imagined morning walk to the hen house to get fresh eggs ... Lol

LOL!! Nope, I have maybe ONE hen that lays in the morning. I have some that have laid by about ten, some wait until after lunch while others are closer to the evening. Plan to collect either several times a day or wait until you know your ladies are done for the day. I don't know where the whole morning collection originated from. Seems to be more likely to have the collection in the evening instead to get the next morning's breakfast.

I have strange chickens, lol. For example, one will lay at 8am, then 9am the next day, then 10am the next, and so on, up to about 2pm. Then they seem to skip a day and 'reset' themselves, and they are back to 8am again!

I always thought that all laying would be done by 11am or so too. But today, I had 2 of my RIR's lay their first eggs ever - the first at 2pm and the second at 4pm. I give up trying to understand it! I'm just happy to get eggs at all :P

Mine haven't had a rest day maybe that's why they lay so late ... The two laying weeks I had them I has an egg a day from them. Not complaining though :) cool to see that the morning collection story is just that a story

I have three 16 week old hens (17 w on Monday) and I think the barred rock will lay soon, huge waddles and more red then the layers. My EE ( bought as ameraucana from hatchery) I can't say since they have pea combs what indicates it? Then my australop seems to not be there yet and I have an 11 week old ideal 236
How many do you have?
