My daughter did a science fair experiment on washed vs. unwashed eggs. I posted the results here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=5563203 We have tried unwashed eggs since and they never hatch as well as the washed. We use bleach and hot water too. I heard hot water works better because being warmer on the outside than the inside pulls contaminates out of the shell too. I don't know if its true but we always have good hatches in the cheapest hova bator with still air.
