First of all....
This is technically my second successful hatch, as I finally got 1 chick out of 14 of my own eggs. I had home-made incubator issues, but at least they were my own eggs. Then I got the hatching bug, ordered eggs and thought it would be wise to order an octagon 20 at the same time (best investment I've ever made btw..)
While waiting- I hatched this little guy in my home-made incubator -->
I think he's a Sebright X Brahma (buff or drk.)....with attitude to spare!
He was lonely for a week while waiting for my 6 BCM eggs to hatch. When lockdown time came for my BCM's, I transfered them into my hm 'bator because I had gotten black & blue cochin bantam eggs & BLRW eggs in the mail & was doing a staggered hatch.
This is what FINALLY hatched this weekend:
Out of 6 eggs (She shipped 8 & two quit) I got 5 chicks!!! I thought since they were on day 23 on Saturday when they all hatched, that I would be lucky if I got one!
BTW- 2 that hatched still had "stuff" stuck to them. One the "stuff" came off in the incubator. The other, I noticed tonight has it stuck between the umbilical cord spot and the vent. I freaked 'cause I was thinking pasty butt & soaked his little behind with a warm washcloth. I made sure his little vent was unglued, but him back in and he pooped. I still haven't gotten the "stuff" off- as I don't want to pick at it. What should I do different?
