And so it begins again.....

Have joined the January Hatchalong, thanks gimmie birdies xxx

My very first hatch was in a borrowed Octagon 20 with a mixed batch of eggs given to me by a local keeper as well as some from my own girls....set 20 eggs, got 19 chicks, was sooo chuffed! I didn't have a turning cradle so had to do that bit by hand but it was so easy with the octagon design....just tipped it from centre to side, back to centre, then other side. Clearly worked a treat!!!

Think that particular model is an r-Com max 20. Here is a video of it in action:

As for sale, I bought my r-Com MX 50 from Amazon since it was a much lower price than other placed had it listed for. (They were listing it for like 700 and amazon had it for 288.)
The MX 50 is actually listed as a lower price than the max 20 for some reason on amazon.

I thought it was a good value in comparison to the other middle to higher end home incubators basically, without turning to the professional incubator market. I like the MX50. I will say that I did buy an extra egg tray from an rcom supplier website that ended up being an extra 30 or so bucks, but it really helps turn the eggs much much better, to me. The tray looks like the one in the video. It must have been standard for that model (the 20.) I'm not sure. Not very familiar with the incubators, as of yet.

Of course you can always see these on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...0.Xr-Com+mx+20.TRS0&_nkw=r-Com+mx+20&_sacat=0

I prefer to buy from Amazon, because I've never had a problem with Amazon that I couldn't get fixed. They've always and I mean ALWAYS come through for me when something went wrong with the product. Their returns are extremely easy, as well, if you decide that you have buyer's remorse. For me, when I got it in, at first I was nervous it didn't seem to turn that well. So then I thought well let me try one thing before I return it, and that egg tray works wonderfully. I can find the website if anyone needs it, but honestly it's extremely easy to find. Just an rcom supplier of parts and incubators. They are far too expensive, to me, to buy the incubators from but any replacement parts I would buy if I truly needed them.

So maybe you can help me. I just put my first hatch in the new Rcom 50 mx. I ran it for several days and found a big difference in the temp and humidity from one side to the other. So I taped the seam joining top and bottom of unit and got it to read the same in 3 different spots. Put my eggs in and the humidity shot up to 58%, we are extremely dry here this should not happen. Ran it overnight and still high. So I pulled the tape off and the temp dropped to 98 on the right side and shot up to 103 on the left side. So I taped 'er back up, won't know the result until this evening. Do you have any advice you can share? I'm really not loving this unit right now I don't want all the fuss and worry that's why I bought this unit!!

I wish I could help, I truly do, but my RCom has been rock solid in all areas....smack on with temps and humidity on every hatch. It's had no real fluctuations across the deck and has given me fabulous hatches. My most recent hatch was my worst ever with 9 of 12 needed assistance in one way or another but the temps and humidity were calibrated and were still spot on so I believe it was the eggs.

All I can say is, assuming you have fully checked to ensure that the unit is properly put together, that the top and bottom are correctly aligned and clipped together and that your lid is properly placed, ,that the humidity tubing is clear and unkinked and flowing correctly, that you go back to wherever you bought it from and take it up with them as the unit is presumably faulty. The RCom's are known for being very steady, that's why I bought it and presumably why you did too but you will always get rogue items in any manufacturing process so you may have been unlucky enough to have got one of those xxx

Thank you so very much for your reply appreciate your input. I will double check again when I get home. Humidity issues I can work around but the temp spikes can be deadly and costly. I traveled 9 hours in a storm to buy 3 doz. Svarthona eggs, sure don't want to lose them.

Hadn't heard of those, looked them up.....very nice! I wish you the very best of luck and hope you are able to get yourid bator issues sorted xx

They are big in the US next best thing to the Ayam Cemani and some say better. Got the rcom figured out, it was the placement. The only spot I had for it was under 2 windows, the Brinsea and Hovabator take up the rest of the counter. I wrapped a folded towel around the back and sides to keep the cold off. Did the trick, temp and RH holding right where it needs to be. Anxious to candle this weekend and take a looksee at the progress. Thanks for the support
