Here are our first batch of chicks - 19 Cornish-X, 3 Buff Orps. (wanted 6 but 3 was all they had). Took a little while to get the temp right but now they're good to go.

Man these things poo a lot [IMG] As they grow we'll add a second bin to the brooder.

    Congrats on all the babies!

It's true that they poop almost nonstop. It's quite astounding.

You can put them on shavings after they're a few days old.

We went to our local sears store and picked up an extra large appliance box. we turned it on its side which gives about 5 feet by 3 feet of room for our 9 chicks, it works so well! Looks like you'll need to expand quick.

I have always put by babies right on shavings and they do just fine. They are on shavings in the feed store when I pick them up.

Have fun! They are so cute!
