One of my 17 week old Leghorns decided to leave me a little present today. I know it is only one egg but it is my first egg! I don't know whether I should eat it or put it on the wall. My 5 year old was so eggcited when we found it. Hopefully the other 13 will get into the game soon.
Yay! We were absolutely giddy when we saw our first pullet egg (from our group of 6). That was just a few weeks ago, and now ALL 6 of the girls are laying. The eggs are getting bigger and better and more normal-shaped every day. Have fun!
Day after and my son couldn't wait to go check the nesting boxes. I told him he had to wait until 9:00am. And so he went. With the biggest smile on his face, he brought in another small white egg. I am assuming it is from the same leghorn hen that layed the egg yesterday. In the event it wasn't, they are all in the pen until noonish just in case we get lucky with another beginner. Yah!
I got a shock a few days ago when my 17 - week -old laid an egg. So tiny! It was only an inch long! I have not found any more (the first was in the box, so I haven't searched the bedding), but this morning I found a normal sized egg with a thin shell. Could she have laid a normal sized egg already, or does someone else need some TLC?
Day 3 and my leghorn layed a big egg today. The best thing was that another one of my leghorns started today too! It was a much smaller beginner egg. Come on the rest of you. 12 more to go. I am getting a shipment of 25 more layers in two weeks. Now to build them a new home.
Congrats. Does that mean it was Penny that gave me the thin shelled egg this morning? That is a relief. And it makes me wonder if she laid one of the eggs yesterday. Oh, the joys of chickens. They certainly keep you guessing!
In 6 days, in 6 days since my first egg, my 5 year old son retrieved 6 eggs today from the coop. What a difference a week makes. The best part is that I am getting 3 different colored eggs. This is simply awesome!
