Solved Android App Crashing on Startup?

I've just started noticing a problem with the app after a phone system update. It tries to load, but can't and Android reports:

"Something went wrong with Backyard Chickens."
"Backyard Chickens closed because this app has a bug."
"Try updating this app after its developer provides a fix for the error."

The error message doesn't give any indication of "what" the bug might be...

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro, SM-G715A, on AT&T
Android 12, Kernel 4.12.113-23741130
Build SP1A.210812.016.G715AUCU8CVD2

I'm using version 1.2 of the app, which shows last updated on Google Play Nov 7, 2017

At first I had the same problem, but after a reboot everything disappeared

I switched to the web-based program that @casportpony recommended. With the app from Google Play I was having frequent problems. Since the switch I've not had any problems.
