As far as wrapping, I have good success by wrapping the BODY FIRST a couple times. Then wrap the wing to the body. Best to do when you first see developing. Mules and scovys, I never see caruncles on mules... so one is for sure a scovy drake. I have raised hundreds of ducks, and not one mix/mule had caruncles.
