Angle grinder disks for cutting hardware cloth

Bonus tool in the box you'll have for future projects. I worked construction years ago I can do it all from foundation up. I told the wife 21 years ago every project I do that saves us big money I will buy the new tool to help with my project. After 21 years 3 houses I now look like I'm a contractor tools wise. I own it all if I don't have it and need it for a project that I'm saving my family money I buy the tool. Always use the correct tool for the correct job. (He or she who dies with the most used tools wins.)

I totally disagree I tried this way I ended up bleeding and mad till I took out the grinder took seconds to do what I did in 15 mins with snips.
I’m with you, if you have a lot to cut like we did, the grinder makes for short work. It’s no fun to have your knuckles jabbed and deep scrapes that bleed and the grip fatigue that sets in.

Grinder is way overkill and difficult to use on HC. Wire cutter is all you need. Cheap, easy to use and works perfect.

Yes, but only for short runs. For big projects, wire cutters leave you bloody and arthritic big time. For big projects, I'd say an angle grinder is not at all overkill. And if you do use wire cutters, get flush cutters. Otherwise you end up with what amounts to a limb saw blade along every edge. I.ve build tons of animal habits using 1/2 inch mesh, so I speak from experience. Good luck!

doesn't matter if it fits the hub properly.
Um no. You somewhat correct but mostly wrong.

4.5 in cutting wheels and other wheels are meant for those because of the metal guard. Now where you are right is that you actually can take the guard off and put a larger wheel, but that is extremely dangerous. The larger the wheel the closer it is to you hand on the trigger.

I work as a welder and fabricator. We put 7 in cutting wheel on our 4.5" grinders all the time. I tell you there were so many close calls where I fell the wheel cutting into my glove.

I purchased an angle grinder and cutting disk in order to cut hardware cloth easily. However when I went to use it, my husband said I had gotten the wrong disk. Could someone tell me what the right disk is for this and whether I bought the right one? He said you have to get a 4 1/2 inch disk for a 4 1/2 inch grinder, but I thought the part that mattered was shaft diameter and not the size of the disk?

Excellent advice! Wish I would have seen this before using an angle grinder on my hardware cloth. It does work well, but definitely is a challenge. Another poster said harbor freight for cut off wheels. They are correct, cheap there.

Yeah it can get the job done but wow is you hand gonna hate you.

If you got the grinder use it. Besides it will help you make other things later on.
