I care very much about the cattle we raise. Doesn't mean I can keep them all for many years. We have a cow/calf herd. We make a large part of our income by selling the calves yearly when they reach about 9 months old. Does that make me a bad person or that I don't care about those calves...no it doesn't.

I would suggest until you've lived in my shoes and tromped thru the mud at all hours of the day and night checking on cows that are calving no matter what the temperatures are you are in no position to pass judgement on anyone who raises livestock for a living and doesn't keep them for years.

This is true. People who raise animals for sale for meat care just as much as people who raise them for pets or to sell as pets.

I certainly didn't mean for this topic to get heated either. I just thought it was information people may like to read about. I probably should have known better coming from "Governing" Magazine.

I personally think that putting animal husbandry issues up for a public ballot decision is one of the most misguided ideas to have come down the pike in many years. Nothing like asking a body of people of whom 99% have no idea of what is and is not sensible when it comes to the profitable raising of a given animal to decide how they should be raised.

Anything the organization is involved in makes me suspicious right off the bat.
