Animal Control - My new BFF

I think you can go up to animal control and find out who is reporting..
When I have to (unfortunatly) report neighborhood dogs I always worry that they are going to check and come yell at me

If animal control knows it's the same person (or even if it's not), then why doesn't animal control just inform the person right then and there that they've already been out to your property numerous times and they've deemed you to be legal???

I know they have a duty to f/u on the calls, but if they'd inform the person that you're in the right, then maybe it would help to cease the calls on you. JMHO

Having been in this situation with a different species of critter, Inform your AC that
A its harassment.
B they can be held liable for following up and encouraging the harassment.
C.If your legal and they know this they have no reason to follow up on every call, have them demand from the caller, pictures, recordings etc.
D The harassing party can be held liable for AC reimbursement for travel time, gas mileage etc for every non warranted call out to your place.

1 trip is acceptable
2 trips for a follow up on original complaint is acceptable.
3 + calls from the same person is now considered harassment.

Pass the word to neighbors with intent of it getting back to the caller you are fully prepared to file harassment charges.
I will guarantee calls will stop.

The problem is that animal control goes through police dispatch around here it is the capital city with 250,000 people and once a call is "unfounded" it disappears. So whoever is working dispatch may not have anyway of knowing that someone has called before. I think as AC gets familiar with us they will quit showing up on their own and just call back in saying yeah - we've checked it out before they are fine.

Funny thing is we have had the chickens for 1 1/2 years and this just started this month.

There are no new neighbors either.

Yes, yes just make animal control your new bff. But forever is a long time

That's exactly what I think! Watch your birds for tampering...persistence shows anger...

I have one troublesome neighbor, so I headed off any harassment by telling as many neighbors as possible about my birds, as soon as they arrived. I made sure to tell one and all how thrilled we were and how happy we were to be doing this WITHIN THE LAW.

I would recommend that you blab to one and all about your LEGAL chickens and how someone is about to get themselves in trouble for harassing the Animal Control office.

we have had a similar problem with a neighbor who calls the city on the ENTIRE neighborhood for "blighted properties". No HOA, so if the grass got over 6 inches or your daughter's boyfriend parked on the dirt instead of the street BAM! you got a letter.

City of Phoenix has been out so many times we know the inspector's neighbor's names.

We eventually had to threaten the city with a harrassment lawsuit---it comes down to you having the right to face your accusers. AC may not know, but police dispatch DEFINATELY keeps record of who is calling. I suggest you start a letter-writing blitzkreig. MAIL and EMAIL every single person at the police department, animal control, city council. It will be like the Shawshank Redemption. Eventually they will get tired of hearing from you and tell the complainer to shut up.

Ok here is what you do. Apply for a job at animal control & become one of the people that takes the calls. Then once you find out who did it egg there house to show your love of eggs. Then ask your friends if they have an eggresive rooster they want to get ride of ( a diffrent breed from yours) and put it in a cage on there doorstep with a note saying Im watching you, Move the chicken coop closer to there house. Become friends with the control officers and walk around the neighborhood with a few beers in your hand. Oh yeah throw a bunch of nice loud parties. Show them how lucky they are.

This really sucks. In an agriculture state like Iowa, you would expect people to be accepting of livestock of any kind.
See you this weekend, with the duckies in tow. They'll be happy here, lots of step-sisters/brothers to wander with.
