Well animal control stopped by today for the second time to confirm that I was in compliance with our cities new chicken ordinance that took effect mid July.
The first time was three days after the ordinance had been voted on and passed but not in effect yet. I was in violation at that time in almost every way. It took me a trip to city hall and an hour to get a copy of the new ordinance. Once I had the ordinance I discovered that every thing that the officer had said was wrong, she had all the distances mixed up and other things. Well being the dutiful and lawful (lol) chicken farmer that I am, with a little prodding from my wife. I rebuilt the coop and moved it so that it was in compliance.
So today the same officer stopped by to check up on me, she wanted to see the coop so out back we went. The first thing out of her mounth was that I was not in compliance. I proceeded to inform her what was truly in the ordinance with all the proper set back distances, offering to get my tape measure to prove it to her. Her comment was you seem to know what your doing and the ordinance, so I will flag your address so when the other complaints come in we won't have to bother you. The last comment by her was "That sure is a cute coop"
All I could do the rest of the day was dance a jig around the backyard and stick my tongue out at my wonderful neighbor that keeps turning me in.
