this is such a great idea! i hear all kinds of ridiculous things about chickens and i wish the general public were a bit more informed (even those who don't have chickens!) i can contribute some photo possibilities:

Tinychicky, those are great pics you take! Can you take some with human interaction?

Yes I have to say that if you volunteer anything said or any picture posted here, it will have your automatic permission to be used for a public printable page.

Yea, they are good! I'm just going to leave the pics on the thread for the time being till I get a page of quotes that we can narrow down.

Another 'did you know' which is so good for our city is Ticks - I know not every country gets them but we do and the ticks kill dogs and cats - chickens eat them! Over here they are carried about a lot by bandicoots and possums... I really don't think people realise how affectionate or inquisitive chickens are...mine are into everything we do - if its planting plants or cleaning the horse paddock - there they are following about - my husband jokes that if I was born a few centuries earlier I would have been burnt on the stake for being a witch!

With pictures, I agree they are great photos but think that it's more attractive/fun to have cartoony ones to get peoples attention - I would think the flyer needs to be friendly fun and informative without the readers noticing...cartoons/drawings are less 'threatening' so people are more open to them - WE find chickens attractive and beautiful but not everyone does! Chickens are a source of, not only eggs, but companionship and even humor. They are very comical birds and often make me laugh. They don't require much -- just a suitable coop, food, water, a nest box, a dustbathing area, and a few more items to make them feel at home. A healthy chicken requires no visits to a vet. They, if kept safely, can have fairly long lives. Hens do not require a rooster to produce eggs, so you can have chickens in your backyard even if your zoning laws do not permit roosters!
