u sure he was a real one? and not one that took a peice of printer paper and colored on and said it was a "real" vet degree? lol

While it seems obvious that this vet has little experience in handling chickens and that the OP will want a different vet based on that problem, its really necessary to make allowance for the fact that vets are constantly being bitten, kicked, scratched, and otherwise attacked by animals whose owners swear that they're the sweetest things on earth.

Seriously, if your neighbor told you that his dog "wouldn't hurt a fly" so there was no need for a fence to protect your birds would you believe him? Or would you automatically understand that pet owners aren't always sensible about their beloved animals capability for inflicting injury on people or other animals -- especially when nervous about being in an unusual situation.

Umm duh!!!

I agree with posting here. I was given some great advice on my flock that was vicously attacked by a hawk. I gave my bird peniccillan myself. Umm..... if I could do it, where did he go to vet school?

My birdie is doing much better and has even healed a broken leg!

I wouldn't mind but it took us aaages to find this vet, who was supposedly experienced with chickens, as others looked at her and shrugged and admitted they knew nothing. The 'experienced' vet said himself that he usually discovered what was wrong with the chicken through a post-mortem and so wasn't sure how to treat her...hmmm.

We're looking for another vet now, but i'm not home for the weekend so am panicking about Milly. I can give her her meds on Friday and am back Sunday evening, but nobody is home on Saturday. Ohhh nightmare...and the people who normally feed and water the girls don't have enough experience to give her the meds

Today she was active and happy to run around the garden and then climb onto my knee for cuddles. I managed to get her to drink a little today,and she ate a few raisins, some custard and, when i mixed it in with her pellets, i caught her sneakily eating a few of those too, which i hope is a good sign!

3KillerBs, yes i totally understand what you are saying. It just upset me that he was so rough with her and that he was obviously distressing her.
